“Shh… you guys hear that?”

Three soldiers walked side by side, weapons at the ready, looking around the worn and broken area that was once the mighty New York City. They stopped though when the other male spoke, gazing around the area while weapons were lifted to aim their sights wherever they looked. Minutes passed before one finally spoke up, “you’re just being jumpy.. There’s nothing here but old corpses.” With a reassuring pat on the back the three started walking again, the single one that was sure he had heard something remaining back a few steps, continuing to look up and around the area for the source of the sound. He stopped then, hearing the small crumble of rocks, looking to a building where he watched a shadow move from behind his gas mask. Lips parted behind it, ready to call out to the other two before a long curved blade dug into his throat, silencing him. A rope wrapped around his body and was immediately pulled up and into the building tops, out of sight from the other two men. They turned, staring at the blank space where their partner once stood. “David?!” one called out, nothing but silence, "David!" A soft breeze was all that answered, “man this isn’t funny! Boss is going to have our asses if you keep pulling this s**t and make us late!” Still there was nothing, silence, making the other two lift their weapons and start slowly towards the scene where their friend had once been.

Gazing around they stood back to back, trying to find anything out of place, “David!?” another called again, silencing when a quite sound hit his ears. Pat, Pat, Pat, Pat... The faint sound of liquid dripping on something plastic, like rain on an umbrella. “What is that sound?” he questioned, looking to the other who shifted back some, “Mike, it’s on you..” he whispered, pointing. The other lifted his hand to the top of his helmet, pulling back his gloves to stare at the red that stained them, looking up just in time to see the body of their teammate fall to the ground. Jumping back they stared at it, head pf the fallen man barely hanging on by a thin slice of flesh, armor torn and ripped, organs simply falling from the large gouge in his stomach. “Mike… that has to be some big blade to cut through the armor…” the other man whispered with a shaky voice. Immediately Mike had lifted his gun and began firing at the rooftops, screaming with anger and frustration at the top of his lungs. “Come on you mother ********! Show yourself!” He had been far to preoccupied with the firing to notice that a rope had snagged his other teammate by his ankle and dragged him away before he could scream for help.

Turning slowly Mike noticed the lack of his other partner, shivering then from fear while he looked around. “Where are you, you son of a b***h?!” The sound of heels against broken concrete then began to echo, the man turning his head to watch as a long lean female form slipped free from the shadows, clad in a long black suit that clung to her every shape, bits and pieces of armor over her arms and legs, the old uniform for female soldiers. “What are you doing here?” he asked her, “you must return to the city. It’s not safe.” She gave a small laugh, pushing long black hair from bright eyes, the man finally noticing the blade at her side that was still dripping with the red. “Y-you.. You’re the one..” he whispered, aiming at her and firing. He watched as the bullets pierced the wall behind where she once stood, not realizing that she had moved behind him until long fingers trailed down his back slowly. “I’m not going to kill you.. Yet… I want you to tell me.. Where is your boss?”

The start of our story started about fifty years prior to these events, when America had declared war on the rest of the world, claiming that they were far better in both size and strength, and that whatever they wanted, they should receive. It didn’t go well for the rest of the world. American soldiers stormed countries, killing off innocents and other soldiers, the death span equaling up to far greater than any other war combined. But, it wasn’t enough to overpower the globe. Still more American men fell at the battlefront, trying to protect their own country, but they weren’t strong enough. So the greatest minds got together, trying to find a way to make the perfect soldier, one that could withstand injury, that would age slower, move faster and more silently, kill far easier. They had done it, taking two children without any family and injecting them with a serum they simply called ‘X’. Over their years of growth they had been forced to train their bodies and minds, forget pain, forget emotion, forget everything that was before their new mission. Subject A, the male in the experiment, far surpassed Subject B, the female, the only reason he was the first to go into war. After a few more years she had been sent out as well, equipped with her standard machine gun and the blade that she had picked out for herself. It didn’t take long to find subject A, and together they fought, side by side, against the enemies of the country.

But then, unknowing to the both of them, she slowly found that her years of forcing to forget emotions had worn out. She had fallen in love with the man that she fought beside, she wouldn’t admit it, but she knew that he knew. Which was why he had taken advantage. One day she watched as he gunned down all of the soldiers on his own team, all before a pistol pressed to her chest, staring at the man before her. “B. We are far superior to these low lives. We can take over this planet, start a world of our own.. Side by side..” She could kill him if she wanted to, take the blade and drive it into his skull before he could even pull the trigger, but her heart wouldn’t let her, arms felt as if they weighed a thousand pounds… Shaking her head she closed her eyes, thinking that he wouldn’t pull the trigger, that he cared for her too and would let her go.. But the blast and the sharp pain told her otherwise as bright eyes opened to stare at that face while she fell to the ground limp. He had figured her for dead… that was his first mistake. The bullet hit right beside her heart, the wound healing quickly, she waking after only a few days before going in hiding and watching as the planet was slowly killed away.

Over the many years in hiding she had killed off his soldiers, he having made a new empire for himself, killing those that didn’t agree, training soldiers to fight for him, give their life for him. He had given himself a real name, what it was she didn’t know, all she did know was that now she had finally gained enough strength and will power to forget what feelings she once had for this man and hunt him down to kill him and free the planet from his rein. So here she was, blade pushing into the lower spine of the soldier, whispering softly to him through the mask, “tell me where your boss is and I’ll let you live..” she cooed. He remained silent though and she narrowed her eyes, pushing the blade into his back, severing his spine and causing his body to collapse. “You’ll stay alive for a little while.. Just long enough for the wolves to have a good meal..” Bright eyes looked down the broken road and the skinny dogs that stared hungrily, turning and stepping away from the body to continue her search for the city this man was locking himself up in.
