my life is a butt
like the end of a cigarette
perched between my lips
while i inhale all the wants
and exhale the pain,
even though i'd discard either
given the opportunity,
only the burnt remains go.

the ends of my cigarettes.

life is a habit too addicting to toss away
no matter how much i wish i could quit;
there's no patch, gum, or vape
for life.
the only way out is a long trip
down the highways paved on your wrists
or a supplement taken fifty times daily
all at once.

of course
if you wanna quit the long way
there are natural remedies
mine is a cigarette
perched between my lips
the butt of which i will toss out
after i have inhaled all the wants
and exhaled all the pain

but my life won't go
until my last cigarette.
