Alexiel sits on her perch in a large apple tree and stares at the large foreboding mansion before her. She picks a nearby apple and takes a bite out of it. It's been a long time. Judging by appearances, no one has been in there for ages. I'm surprised it's still standing. She scoffs under breath, and slowly remembers the first time she'd arrived there, back when she was much younger.
~ An older woman wearing a rough sack-looking dress bustles down a long semi-hidden trail surrounded by tall trees. A man around the same age wearing a pair of thin patched pants and a thin cloth shirt, walkes a few paces behind her. "Come along, child." The woman says coldly as she turns toward a tiny girl trying desperately to keep up.
The little girl starts to run faster, but trips over a stone and falls. She pushes herself intoa sitting position, blinks innocently, and starts to cry. The man rushes over to the child, places her on her feet, and then hugs her. "Shh, Alexiel, don't cry, daddy's here." He rocks her gently to comfort her.
The woman rolls her eyes and gives an exasperated sigh. "Hurry, Robert, we can't keep him waiting all night." The woman says harshly. "Besides, you're not that thing's father."
Robert looks up at the woman. "Calm down, Magiere. We should at least tell her the truth. I'm sure he can wait a little while longer."
Magiere lowers her head and twin patches of silver hair make themselves visible upon her temples. "Fine, tell her, but make it quick. You never know when that thing will lose control and kill us." She pauses. "I still dont' know why you gave a name fit for an angel, to a demon child."
Moonlight filtered through the trees and made the man's raven hair shimmer with silver. "She may be a demon, but she is bound to become as beautiful as the angels themselves." Robert turned his attention toward Alexiel. "Alexiel, Magiere and I found you in the forest. We couldn't just leave a defenseless baby in the middle of the forest, so we brought you home with us and we raised you. We never knew where you came from, or who or what your parents were. All we know is that you are a rare crossbreed demon." Alexiel nodded and blinked innocently. "The other villagers are afraid of you so we're putting you in another's care, alright?"
"Yes...sir..." Alexiel's large gold eyes begin to water.
Robert's eyes start to glisten with the threat of tears. "I don't care if you are a demon. You're still my daughter." He hugged Alexiel and stood to speak with his wife, Magiere. "Let us be on our way, love."
Magiere gives an aggravated sigh. "About time." She starts to bustle up the path once more.
Robert glances down at Alexiel, takes her hand, and begins to follow Magiere up the path. Eventually, they find themselves standing before a pair of gold inlaid oak doors with an intircate pattern surrounding them. Magiere and Robert stare at the door in awe, even as it opens to reveal a tall, thin, white-haired man with long claws. "The master awaits the both of you in the study. Follow me." He steps inside to make room for the couple. Magiere and Robert step inside followed by Alexiel just as the man closes the door. "This way." He glances at Alexiel with a sad and forlorn expression in his eyes. He turns away and starts to walk down what appeared to be the Grand Hall, and the couple began to follow him.
