Rakashi's Chronicles
Mere typings-downs that I decide to make public, I guess. I doubt it will be anything beyond stuff about my rp stuff, but, hey, you never know...!
The God Chronicles - The Powers of Io and Garyx
A deep silence hung in the air almost as thickly as the dust. Roughly hewn stone walls towered up along the sides, their surfaces made more rough by time. Rounded, narrow pillars once engraved with words giving praise to some deity or other supported the lost-in-darkness cieling above, tiny hairline cracks running up and down their battered curves. Rows and rows of wooden benches long crumbled away with rot stretched forward, leading to a stone alter now laying shattered on the ground.
There was no light, but then, Rakashi needed light not. The drow strode forward down the central isle towards the alter, his eyes downcast to watch his feet silently tread. Once did he chance a look to the left, yet regretted it once he saw the large, dark patch of some dried liquid on the wall. The faint smell it still held gave it away as blood.
He flinched, quickly returning his gave to his feet. When he was past the final row of crumbled benches, he stood before the alter. He could now make out the details of the far side of this church.
The alter was once contributed to Selune, for he could make out the seven stars and feminine eyes symbol, though half of it was cast across the ground. The wall behind the alter held a once grand window, as round as the full moon. The glass was now shattered and jumbled amidst the stone, leaving a gappind hole opened to the pitch black sky, the moon the church once held sacred a mere sliver, perhaps to hide its grief at the deprivation of such a sancified place, although Selunes's Tears were certainly abundant this night, following their mourning master. It was certainly fitting...
The roof had collapsed to the left some time ago, the rumbled including a shattered statue of the Moon Goddess that must have been twin to the other on the right.
There was much blood on the floor here, the combined scents causing Rakashi to nearly gag.
Nervously he turned away from the grizzly alter, remembering now why he came here.
"Why have you asked to meet me here?" he asked the darkness his shimmering sapphire eyes pierced so brightly. He was answered by a chill wind blowing in from the opened double doors across from him, one laying unceremoniously on the ground while the other teettered one a single, rusting hinge. The mage craddled his heavy cloak closer around himself to futily try to ward away the shiver that raced down his spine.
He had come unarmed (as 'unarmed' a mage could be), as he had agreed, but Rakashi still didn't know why he of all people would want to speak with a mere druid such as himself in such a depressing place as this.
"Hello?" Rakashi called again, though quite meekly.
A cackling laugh that suddenly seemed to resound from everywhere made Rakashi jump. He ws clutching his chest--though feeling nothing--and panting with fright as he tryed to look everywhere at once, his glowing eyes darting here and there.
A voice practically sneered out from the darkness across the room, saying, "Why so jumpy, drow? I merely asked you here for a chat."
"You certainly chose a pleasant palce," Rakashi snapped sarcastically, rather miffed about being frightened by the speaker, "why couldn't you have chosen a nicer place? Like a meadow? Or a mountain valley? ...Or somewhere with light...?"
"What? And ruin my fun?" the voice sneered back.
"You know I dislike your brand of 'fun', Derek." the druid snapped back.
"My, my, so snippy..."
"Are you going to show yourself and speak, or are you just going to fiddle with me some more?"
"Yes, yes, of course." A figure stepped out from behind one of the pillars. He, too, wore a large black cloak like Rakashi's, though there were steel plates faceted onto the shoulders, more of a show against weakness than for any real protection. He was cowled, too, and all Rakashi could see from so far away was a sneering mouth below shadows and steel-shodden boots beneath whispering cloth.
"Better, now?" he asked almost irritably.
"You call that 'showing yourself'?" Rakashi asked dryly.
"You'd rather I disrobe and speak stark naked?" came the sneering reply.
Rakashi scowled, finding nothing funny, yet conceded the point. "Fine, fine. But what is it you wanted to talk about?"
"This." A dagger was spinning fast for druid throat before the word was uttered.
Rakashi barely managed to stumble away from the spinning blade. The dagger struck the alter, then clattered to the floor, the noise covering the footsteps rushing down the central isle.
"What are you doing?" Rakashi shouted at him in despair as we watched, with dread, the figure he had thought was his friend drew a short but wicked kriss blade from beneath his swirling cloak as well as the disturbing, crazed smile that cracked across his attacker's face.
"It's nothing personal, old friend," he said with dripping sarcasm as he vaulted over the last row of crumbled seats to slash at the retreating form of Rakashi.
The deadly blade slashed through air and cloth, but did not bite into pitch black flesh. "I'm just under orders."
Rakashi choked out a swift incantation, his voice rough with the aspect of attacking the crazed assassin. Blasts of force that distorted the air bombarded the cloaked attacker, battering him back a good foot back to stagger, reeling in pain.
"Oh, gods! I'm so sorry, Derek!" Rakashi cried out, stumbling forward, without thinking, to aid him.
A grin that spoke clearly of insanity flashed almost as suddenly as the kriss sword, reaching for druid flesh.
Rakashi tried to stumble to a stop, but he knew it was futile as the deadly point seeming to reach almost lazily for his throat.
Yet suddenly the blade's wielder jerked with a sudden spasm, his sword arm faltering then ultimately dropping the blade to clatter noisily on the stone ground.
Stunned, Rakashi only watch with fearful astonishment as Derek fell to his knees, coughing up blood.
It was then that he saw the hilt sticking out of the would-be-killer's back.
"Really, if you're going to imitate me, you could have at least made me look better." A voice said with very disapproving tones.
"Wh-wha-? Who's there!?" Rakashi called out, his voice faultering. The mage was starting to wonder if it was customary to speak from the darkness in this place, though with little sarcasm.'
"Who else but Thay's greatest assassin, Derek, Chosen of Death!" The voice replied with a laugh.
"What...? Then, who...?" The mage looked down at the so-called-Derek laying quite dead at his feet. Rakashi backed away quickly in revulsion.
"Him?" asked the real Thayan assassin as he dropped down from the hole in the cieling on the far wall, dropping down to stride across fallen rubble and stones with amazing balance, "He is just a fool trying to do a god's work." This new figure wore exactly the same thing as Rakashi's attacker had, though his hood was down to show the choppy, unkept brown hair and the glittering hazel eyes that could only belong to Rakashi's rather excentric companion. Although Derek's voice was oddly more grave than usual...
"What do you mean?" Rakashi asked with concern.
"It's...nothing. It doesn't matter."
"No, something is wrong. You almost never speak without being sarcastic...!"
"Heh... Yeah, I guess I don't..." Came the mysterious reply.
A blade was in Derek's hand before Rakashi could even blink in confusion.
"I'm sorry, my friend, but I must do this... It is nothing personal..." He said without sarcasm in his voice or a sneer on his lips, nor even a joke in his eyes. "The will of Garyx must be acted upon..."
Derek stalked forward, slowly and deliberately, his blade held to his side. Rakashi backed away with each step, his eyes filling with tears.
"You're going to kill me, too?" he choked out, his throat feeling constricted, "Why didn't you just let the other assassin kill me, then?!"
"I cannot show weakness," Derek explained in cold, deadly tones, "to do so would displease The All-Destroyer. Now, prepare yourself, son of Io. I will not hold back."
Rakashi did not put up his guard. He couldn't fight his friend. But when the mage's back finally hit the wall, Derek charged forward with frightening speed, short sword leading.
The dark mage shouted arcane words and thrust his hands forward. Some intangible force rolled out from his fingertips, shoving the deadly point away, as well as its weilder.
Derek managed to keep his footing when the unseen force permitted, leaving a good twenty or so feet between him and the druid.
"You insult me by using these parlor tricks?!" the assassin snarled, outraged, suddenly seeming someone else. Someone far more vicious than the Thayan rouge could ever have been. "Garyx will not stand for this!"
Derek was suddenly wreathed in angry red flames, the roaring fires suddenly bringing the condemned temple back into light. The flames smote the strong scent of dust with the burning smell of sulfur. Rakashi flinched at the heat that he could feel even from where he stood.
Yet the fiery warrior did not seem harmed at all. In fact, he was looked down at his burning hands with amazement. Even his sword had caught fire, though his clothes, hair and flesh did not sizzle, bubble or burn away into ash. He began to laugh.
"Yes! Do you see?! I am favored by my god! And what have you?" Derek sneered cruely at the cowering drow, "What has your god given you besides your fears?"
Rakashi did not respond, could not respond, he could only stand, shuddering, and keep his arms forward, unleashing the repelling energies to keep the clearly crazed warrior away.
But they no longer did even that. Derek was now stalking into the waves of power with the difficulty one encounters when walking against a cooling breeze.
"What has your god given you?" Derek repeated while raising his sword to strike.
Rakashi fell back against the wall, slowly sliding down the stone surface untill he was on his knees, cowering as the flames grew closer and hotter.
The heat was intense and horrible, yet he could not stop shivvering. He dropped his hands, ending the spell, to clasp his cloak tight and huddle close to the ground in a pitiful attempt to keep the fiery assassin, as well as his blade, away from him.
Tearful sapphire eyes clamped shut, away from the pain to come and a clawed hand chanced to press against his chest, just above were his heart would be...
A titanic burst of force shook the temple around the tiny mage, causing dust to fall from above like rain and for crack columns to shudder eerily.
"What was that?!" The fire-enshrouded Thayan shouted in crazed fear.
Another intense burst blasted out again, this time widening the hole in the cieling across the away and bringing small rocks hailing down to clatter on the stone floor.
"Stop that! Stop doing that!" Derek nearly shrieked as he suddenly wrenched Rakashi up, off his feet, a flaming hand holding him by the colar to hold the drow's pert nose right against his own.
Rakashi responded with a whimper. The flames hurt Derek not, but gods, did they hurt him!
Once more did energy burst out, sending Derek flying to crash into the cieling rumble to be buried by the cascading stones that fell from the shuddering foundation of the church.
Rakashi staggered, now back on his feet, but sorely on his heels. He was making those blasts, he realized.
With Derek's fires buried with their weilder, blessed darkness was, once more, craddling Rakashi in it's velvety embrace. The druid whispered thanks to Io and made his way to the central isle, hoping to escape before Derek could recover.
He managed to reach the alter when the tumbled pile of stones exploded in fire.
Rakashi staggered back from the heat, his eyes shut tight against the blinding light. Stones and rubble flew crashed and clattered across the dead stones and cutting across exposed black skin.
Derek roared his anger, the raging inferno surrounding him rising and blazing out in wrathful response. His sword, still grasped in a burning, white-kunckled grip was bent and slowly falling, buckling under the intense fires.
The assassin spat in distant and tossed the useless blade away, both blade and spittle sizzling where they lay.
"What was a fancy trick," Derke growled out, his voice rumbling in his chest, "but it will not be enough to save you. That little trinket in your chest is weaker than I thought it would be..."
Rakashi replied not, he merely kept backing away, his eyes shut and face averted from the burning light, the tiny ribbons of grey blood crawling down his face left to fall unnoticed.
Derek took a single step foward and Rakashi jumped and whimpered pathetically.
"What was that?" Derek asked; demanded; snarled; it was hard to tell, "What did you say to me?"
"Stop it... Please... Stop this maddness...!" Rakashi pleaded, his watery eyes opening enough to give the fiery warrior a look full of the despair clutching at his soul.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, Rakashi."

Hmmm. You know me again. I'm thoroughly confused, as I normally am. But you know what, I can say this much... whatever you wrote... it is very well written. ^^

It'll make more sense when I, you know, finish it. You know me, again. I never seem to finish things.

Yeah, you should feel bad about that.

Anyway, still not finished! ^^ Just to let you know.

Yeah, I feel horrible.

And yeah, that would make for a great cliff of an ending.... BOOM!
Yeah, I knew that you still weren't finished.

^^ I thought so too. And I'm messing with divine power here, too! Who knows what I'll do!? Maybe they'll both become Aspects of their respective deities!? Man, that'd be cool! The all-powerful, destructive force of Garyx and the all-encompassing might of Io... Awesome.

I'm still confused as to who this other person actually is...

commentCommented on: Sun Oct 15, 2006 @ 02:11am
The dead guy or the Champion of Garyx (the one still alive and, you know, on fire)?

The one still alive, and on fire.

I wonder if that owuld hurt... being on fire and all... there was a Dane Cook thing on that....

commentCommented on: Sun Oct 15, 2006 @ 02:29am
The fire doesn't hurt, because it's the divine representation of Garyx's power being manifest on the mortal plane. Like you know how you'd have shadowy crap around Oracle when she'd be possessed? It's basically the same concept here, only with fire.

Anyway, you know how, before, on Neopets, long ago, when we'd interact with each other and with characters in a pseudo-roleplayish fashion and I practically made a character of myself (the whole assassin thing, mostly)? Yeah, this character is the spawn of that. He's me, basically! ^_^ And on fire!

What's that tell ya, huh? ^^

That you are a freak, on fire, and going to assassinate poor Rakashi. How mean of you... oh well...
And... you see, I cannot characterize myself in order to write something like this so, even more points to your fantastic writing skills.

commentCommented on: Sun Oct 15, 2006 @ 02:39am
=>.<= I don't have "fantastic writing skills"...! Yer embarrassing me! I'm just a psycho who knows how to be a bit imaginative and extremely cruel!

Oh, Ed Greenwood, will I ever be as good as thou art...?

Now then, I'll just need to review my Players Handbook and look over the epic spells and I'll be set for the next part of this here journaly thing! ^^

That's right, I'm using epic spells! EPIC!!

Yeah, but I'm mostly looking at the spell seeds to develope my own spells. I have a few in mind... ^^

But really, epic spells are freaking nuts. There's this one spell, dire winter, that has a Spellcraft DC of 319! 319!! Jesus tap-dancing Christ!

I'll pretend I know what you are talking about.

commentCommented on: Sun Oct 15, 2006 @ 02:49pm
As you should! But it seems pretty obvious to me. Spellcraft is the skill that determines how much control one has over the seeds of magic, the ability to shape those energies and to weave them into forces of effects on this mortal plane.

And since 319 is a very, very high number...

commentCommented on: Sun Oct 15, 2006 @ 04:16pm
All right, then. Anyway, I'm going to need a lot of magic since Io has an amount of power of magic (hence Rakashi's aptitude for sorcery).
