A unique skull :)
In the late 1700s it was decided to codemn the overcrowded cemeteries in Paris because they were 1)spreading disease, and 2)preventing Paris from expanding. They transfered the human remains from the condemned cemeteries into a part of underground quarries, and they are stacked decoratively along the tunnel walls. The catacombs became open to the public in 1867.
Unfortunate news: recently the catacombs were vandalized and it's now closed to the public. :( - Date: 08/30/2009
