• Until my heart stops beating,
    I shall remember the significance...
    While everyone is throwing confetti,
    sending each other love notes,
    shaped like hearts with ribbon and lace.
    I shall remember the significance
    of Saint Valentine and his final farewell
    to the woman whose eyes his faith healed,
    just before he was given to the guillotine.
    Until my lungs stop breathing,
    I shall remember the significance...
    Whilst everyone is wearing green
    and happily pinching each other,
    flashing four leaf clovers,
    and speaking of leprechauns and gold,
    I shall remember the significance,
    of the feast the Roman Catholics held;
    that holy day of obligation.
    Until my soul stops existing,
    I shall remember the significance...
    Whilst everyone is feasting,
    giving thanks for the bountiful food;
    drinking cider and wine,
    and eating pumpkin pie.
    I shall remember the significance,
    of the Nations of Indians
    whose heads were kicked down the streets,
    the feasts that were held upon slaughtering of villages.
    Until my blood stops flowing,
    I shall remember the significance...
    Whilst people are buying and wrapping gifts,
    sticking them in stockings,
    or placing them carefully under a tree,
    waiting for a man in a red suit to slide down the chimney;
    I will remember the significance,
    of the three wise man who bore gifts to a savior.
    Of the man who carried his own cross,
    of the one who brought back the dead
    and brought sight to the blind.
    Where has our morals gone?
    The holidays of cheer and love
    have become misconstrued.
    But I shall give my silent revelry,
    My song shall go unheard,
    as I remember the significance,
    and the sorrow behind the holidays.
