• Artist Info: REQUIEM FOR A SHADOW

There was a time I dreamed a dream
A dream of life a new,
A shadow danced beneath my feet
Amid the morning dew.
And from that shadow came another,
Waking from its shadow slumber,
And the shadows began to wonder
Where do we belong?
In the forest? In the trees?
With the beetles or the bees?
The glanced around from place to place
Looking, searching for a face
A face to call their very own.
For they were shadows, only forms.
They could not smile, could not cry,
Could not live and could not die.
Only waver in the light
And when the sky grew dim,
The shadows would only disappear
And never be seen again.
Do you remember when they danced?
In the wind and in the rain?
You watched them play beneath your feet
Through splintered window pane.
The shadow lifted from the ground,
Without sight and without sound.
He told his friends to gather round
And listen closely here.
"Do you want to be forgotten?
In this world so sick and rotten?
Every person merely thought
To bring all the shadows down.
Down down bring us down,
Never heard and never seen.
Only dancing on occasion
When a child dares to dream."
The shadows all cried out in anger
Roaring, rearing in the sky.
As their many lives endanger
An existence made of lies.
They stormed the forests homes and streets,
Killing all gazed in their wake.
As sure, as steady as one's heart beats
The earth beneath them quakes and shakes.
The people screamed and pointed guns,
But shots don't work on shadow men.
They are merely shadow people,
Feeding on the fears of them.
The highest power looked upon
The battle raging in the dawn
And cast a night upon the land
So that the shadows in the sand,
Melted in surrounded darkness
And became no more.
Their voices are now a quiet echo,
of their cries that pierced the night.
The echoes cry in quiet numbers
Far away and out of sight.
Voices that rant, voices that rave
All they wanted was to be free.
But freedom came at dire price,
It led them to a shadow grave.
But I remember the shadow men,
And the plight they vainly fought,
How they wanted to be remembered.
I have not forgot.
Though days may pass and years and weeks
The memory of them lasts and lasts,
Though all the people hide behind
Their red blood stained and broken masks.
They refuse to come out to the light
And dance with shadows born anew,
Instead they run without a fight,
And prefer to hide in the night,
Where the shadows cannot be,
Cannot exist and cannot see.
Their minds are closed and locked like doors
And darkness seeped into their cores.
But I will dance with shadow men,
As I did upon a dream,
On that day when all were lost.
And playful shadows ceased to be.
