• Through Her Tears
Her tears were beautiful, but that’s no reason to make her cry. Someone should’ve helped her. She was just sitting under the slide when I had passed. I’m not sure why, but she looked beaten. I don’t want to think the worst; hopefully it was just clops of red dirt. Soon her loving mother will come rescue her from dark shadows of the damp playground, right? Hours had passed since the rain had stopped. It was very easily distracting to stare at that one crying girl. The elementary school had just let out, but then why was she here? Then again, why am I here? I know I was off work today, but that doesn’t mean I have time to be staring at a defenseless little girl. I can’t move though. It’s something about her that I can’t stray from. Somehow, she had grabbed onto my heart without even trying. No mother in sight to rescue her, no friends to rely on either. Surprisingly, the thought of going up to her hadn’t occurred for the past two hours. My feet touched the still damp mulch. At the very second of arrival, our eyes met. I didn’t know what to do or how to do it. “Hi! What’s your name?” Somehow, those words came out. Even though there was no answer, I knew what had happened. “I’m not allowed to talk to strangers.” That was her delayed reaction. At first I was surprised, but she’s a normal 7 year old girl isn’t she? “My name is Savannah Stanford. See, now I’m not a stranger! What’s your name?” That’s the only comeback I had. “Kaylee.” I was guessing that she wasn’t a talker. After talking about crayons and a frog that Kaylee had found, I had asked where her mom was. The reply wasn’t very nice. I guess her mother would never come to rescue her. At one point, I was afraid to ask about her father. I avoided that question. “Aren’t you going to ask about daddy?” I’d rather not, but I really want to know. “Sure where’s your daddy?”She was trying to answer that question, but something held her back. Her voice wouldn’t budge and she was frozen solid. Soon she falls into my arm and my heart almost stops. The red stream of blood gave me a heart attack and her a concussion. After calling 911, I tear my sweater and wrap it around her. Hopefully that’ll stop the bleeding, but something weird happens. My head starts to have a sharp pain. I didn’t care about me, I just wanted to save Kaylee! They arrived, but the sirens gave me a shocking migraine. One of the men even told me to stop my bleeding! I soon reach in the back of my head. Yes, my hand was soon covered in a drenching red blood.
I wake up to Kaylee screaming. As I try to lift my sore body, I feel restraints. It was an IV cord sticking through me. I called for the nurse so she could explain what had happened, but nobody came. The whole hospital was very silent, in a way that’s not good. All I could hear was the screams of Kaylee. My voice wouldn’t work. I couldn’t yell out to Kaylee, nor to anyone. After I walked out to the hallway, my room disappeared. I knew that this had to be a dream, so I pinched myself. It hurt a lot! It was probably something else then. There’s no way that something like a room disappearing could be real right? Aside from that, I had to find Kaylee! I walked down towards the delivery center, the cries got louder. The screeching pain from every blast tore my heart until it was bleeding with screams. Set aside my numb leg to embark into the dark room where Kaylee was contained. The door opens, my fission is fading, but I can still see that one death defying figure in the distance. Kaylee.
