• The dark corridor brightened slightly as the young maiden pushes the door back. The corridor is a dark and dreary pathway that leads deep into the so-called haunted house. The maiden wasn’t afraid though. She had been in places like this various times. This is where she had her most fun in life. The darkest places are the places where she found herself thinking the most, and she enjoyed thinking about the dark.

She pushed through the cobwebs. She pushed through the dust. She always loved this part. She loved watching her footprints being etched into the dust after every step. She always thought of the etching as a temporary, but permanent marking of herself being there.

She continued to push through the corridor. Step after step echoing in the large hall. The maiden found herself worrying now. She was worried that she would never get back out of that house. There was no reason to believe this, but she did. However, even with this feeling of remorseful doubt, she pushed on.

Her mind was running circles inside her head. She constantly came back to feelings of hate and doubt. She didn’t mind the thoughts. It were those thoughts that kept her in the house. The thoughts of those people outside of that house scared her. That’s why she went in deeper into the house. To leave the world she knew behind and explore past that boundary set by her parents.

If her parents knew that the maiden had come to such a desolate and disturbing place it would be hell for the girl. Her parents always disliked the maiden’s liking for darkness and discontent. They always said that the dark would kill the girl. They didn’t realize is that darkness doesn’t always kill the person it effects, but rather the persons that the darkness inadvertently affects. Meaning, how it effects themselves. That’s why they had to go.

The maiden continued pushing through the dark corridor. She had started gathering speed at the thought of the hate from the parents she once had. She remembered how they would treat her. Constantly trying to do the right thing for her. What they didn’t realize is that darkness needs it’s space. Especially darkness in a person.

Darkness. The maiden had finally reached the darkness. She couldn’t go any further. It was just too dark, but she went anyways. She decided to continue. The thoughts of her parents pushed her and pushed her. She never thought she was insane, but her parents did. She never acted insane, but her parents thought she was.

Unfortunately, for her parents, they saw things the hard way. The maiden remembers their final words. It was a dark night when it happened. The maiden had just gotten into an argument with her parents. She decided to take life into her own hands. Reaching under her bed she pulled the one thing that truly brought her relief. The knife that had left so many scars on her wrists and arms. She pulled it out and slowly walked to her parents bedroom.

The parents had thought the fighting was over, but what they didn’t realize was that when darkness consumes a person, hatred is always there. She slowly walked to the edge of the bed her parents slept in. She couldn’t tell if they were asleep or awake. They were awake. They watched in terror as their precious little girl walked towards them. She stopped and braced herself. She started with her dad.

She decided to be quick and finish them both before they knew what would happen. She violently thrust her hand over her mouth to cover any screaming. It didn’t work. She cut quickly. She felt the warm blood flow over her fingers. That was close. Any louder and her mother would have awoken.

She slowly moved over to the other side of the bed. She decided that she would just quickly kill her mother and not worry about the screaming. There wasn’t anyone left to awaken. She stopped as she got closer to her mother. She reached to start cutting when she noticed that her mothers eyes. The beautiful eyes that once loved her, were open.

Her mother didn’t say anything. That surprised the girl. She went on. She slowly reached for her mother’s neck. She cut, and didn’t say a word. Her mother did, though. The one word that would forever haunt and disturb her. The word that would forever be etched into her mind.

She stopped at the end of the corridor. She stopped and sat. She didn’t want to move anymore. The darkness was back and so was that word. She sat and sobbed.

The darkness did to her what it did to so many other people. It took advantage of her, it used her for it’s will, it killed her spirit, and then moved on. The word was still there though. The word that would forever haunt her. She believed it now. The word that had been etched into her mind, was how she is now.

She is what her parents believed her to be.

    She was INSANE.
