I'm walking along a forest path that is covered over by dry Autumn leaves. Small rays of sunlight are shining through the canopy of branches over my head. A slight breeze blows from the south, making the leaves rustle as they are being swept away, almost like a whisper. I feel the cool air on the back of my neck as it leads me into the unkown. I am an explorer, on a quest to discover something new. I check my watch, it's mid-afternoon. I decide it's time for a rest. Walking so far has made me tired so I sit at the base of a large oak tree, the leaves underneath crunching under my weight. I look towards the blue sky, barely seen through my golden shelter. As I watch, a yellow leaf breakes free from a tall branch and slowly falls to the ground. As it falls, a ray of light touches its face, making its fiery colour seem to come alive and dance in the wind. At last it comes to a landing close to my feet. I sit silently for a moment and listen.
I feel quite safe within this welcoming domain. It feels like nature is letting me know this place is sacred, a very special home where I am free to be myself, a caring friend with whom I can share my problems, a soothing mother to make me calm. It brings me at peace.
Then I begin to realise how alive the forest is! Almost as if the leaves really are communicating, breathing soft words of wisdom and truth. How I would love to understand their smooth tounge. Imagine what they would say!
Maybe I should continue my journey?
No.
Instead I'll breathe in the fresh air while I can, tasting its sweet scent. Let the warm colours pull me under nature's spell, help me forget all my problems, allow its charming song to slowly draw me away from reality and into a deep sleep.
I am definetely coming back tomorrow.

- Title: Exploring
- Artist: Faerix Fox
- Description: This story I wrote for a competition in 2007. It's basically describing one's observations as they wander through a forest. It has no moral, but I find that after I read it, I feel a bit more relaxed. I hope it will have the same effect on you.
