• I finally realized that he was never coming back. The words ‘he’s dead’ finally sank in.
When I awoke that morning I walked down to the beach we use to go to all the time.
I thought about how he always wanted to see what the sky was like without clouds, since the sky never showed its face to this dark and eerie earth. He wanted to see the warm sun, the sun rising and setting along the horizon of the ocean. We had only seen the sun in history books and in old photo albums though. It seemed like a beautiful sight to see.
I walked along the path in the frozen forest, as I got deeper and deeper into the ice covered wood I saw the opening out to the sandy white shore. There was something very unfamiliar about what I saw in front of me. As I got closer to the opening I realized that there was a light.
I picked up the pace and hurried to go see what it was coming from.
I ran as fast as I could and then eventually slipped on the black ice covering the ground.
As I fell to the ground I landed in something brown and squishy. I looked at my hands and the brown, pudding like mush that was all over them and the knees of my jeans.
I had no idea what this gross stuff was, then something came to my mind and I gasped.
Could it be mud? How could there be mud? The world is frozen under layers and layers of ice and snow, right?
I looked up from my hands and something bright blinded me. I reflexively covered my eyes. I couldn’t see where I was going but kept walking anyways. Finally I stepped onto the beach sand. There was a strange sound lingering in the air. I still couldn’t see anything so I didn’t know what it could be from. The bright light disappeared from my eyes when I faced in another direction. I lowered my arm and saw water crashing into the shore of the beach. Was that what the strange noise was coming from? But how is it that the ocean isn’t frozen anymore? So many things crossed my mind as I began to take in all the unusual things I saw.
I looked towards the horizon and saw many colors, colors of blues, yellows, oranges, and pinks. I then realized what it was after a few moments. It looked exactly like the picture I saw in my history text book. I looked up at the sky at the bright light and again covered my eyes. What I saw was something I could have never expected. It was the sun!
