• When he left, I ran to the bed and jumped on it not realizing how tired I really was. I slept till morning when Davey came in the room and jumped on me. He was so happy that we were all living together. I got dressed and walked out to the kitchen to make some food when I saw a note on the kitchen counter.
It read: Dear Lea, I am at work until two and then I have to go to my night classes. I’ll be home around 5. Don’t even think about leaving because the maid will call me. With love, Cory.
After I read it I walked to the door to see if the maid was out in the hall, when a little hand grabbed my arm and pulled me back in side. It was the maid. She was short, Mexican and a little hefty. She could probably take me down, so the plan of threatening her probably wouldn’t have gone over so well. She then yelled at me in Spanish and slapped my hand.

“Ouch, why did you do that for?” I asked rubbing my hand.

“Usted no es permitido salir!” She yelled.

    “What?” I asked confused.

“Si usted deja él chupará mi sangre!” She yelled

    “I’m sorry, I don’t understand you.” I said politely.

She walked me to the couch and made me sit down. I didn’t stay sitting for long. I walked into Davey’s room and saw that he was feeding his pet fish Sunday. He ran over and hugged me and looked up and smiled. He really does melt my heart.

“Mommy, do you want to play video games with me?” He asked.
“Sure, what do you want to play?” I asked.

“Grand Theft Auto 4, Marie and I play it all the time.” He told me smiling.

“Davey! This is a bad game! You shouldn’t be playing this!” I told him

“But Mommy, daddy gave it to me.” He pleaded.

I picked up three other games off the stack and they were all generally the same. I tried to accept it. I mean, he wasn’t going to be playing this until he was at least 10 and a half, but we’re going to have to get him a game like reader rabbit or putt-putt. When Cory gets home he is going to die. I’m pretty well rested, I can probably take him.
As he was coming through the door I threw a lampshade at him. I know what you are thinking, but it was the first thing I picked up. He quickly dodged it and came over to me. He got over to me too fast. He was on the other side of the room. How did he get to me that fast? My head was starting to spin, but I wasn’t about to let it get a hold of me. I must have been going crazy. That was it, I’m crazy.

“How did you…” I asked meekly.

“Lea, why are you throwing things at me?” he asked before I could ask the rest.

“You were… just…but…how?” was all I managed to get out.

“Maybe you need to sit down. I’ll get you a cup of water too.” He said as he guided me to the couch.

“No, I’m fine! I’m just going crazy!” I shouted without realizing I said it out loud.

“And maybe an aspirin to go with it.” He mumbled as he rummaged through me medicine cabinet.

“No. I’m fine, really.” I said reassuring myself.

“Then can I ask you why you threw a lamp shade at me?” he asked, and then added “Couldn’t you have found a better thing to throw at me?”

“It was the first thing I picked up.” I said as I answered his second question.

“Alright, but why did you throw it at me?” he asked calmly.

I remember now, it’s because he gave Davey that game. What kind of parent does that? He might grow up weird and stuff.

“You gave Davey a Grand theft auto game! He is three and a half years old! What were you thinking?!” I yelled.

“Ha-ha. You found that, didn’t you?” he laughed.

“Yeah, I found it! What were you thinking?” I asked again.

“It’s actually my game, but it’s not that bad. He doesn’t understand what it means anyway, and helps with hand-eye coordination.”

“Oh, well if it helps with hand-eye coordination then I guess I can’t say no. Can I?” I responded sarcastically.

“Ha-ha. Fine, I’ll get him different games if it’ll make you happy.” He said with a smile.

“Okay.” I said. It was the only thing I could say. I expected him to fight me about it. Why was he giving in so easily? I told him awkwardly “Um, I’m going to go take a bath…if you need me.”
He didn’t respond, so I went into my room and got undressed and climbed into the claw foot marble tub across from the window. Then I started the water and let the warmth wash over me. My eyes began to daze, and my mind began to dream off. Then I woke up coughing up water on the ground next to the tub naked with Cory leaning over me.

“What are you doing?! Why are you in here?! Give me a towel!” I croaked.

He gave me a towel as I sat up and covered myself, and just looked at me and said “I thought you were dead. I walked in here and saw you underwater and pulled you out. You almost drowned. I thought I’d have to…” he went off.

“Thank you” was all I could get out. I was so angry at myself. Why did I let this happen? Why am I so stupid? Why do I cause him so much stress? I can’t even tell him that I appreciate him saving my life. I can’t kiss him. I can’t do anything.

“Here, I’ll let you get dressed…” He said in a concerned voice. I could tell he didn’t want to leave me alone, and honestly, I didn’t want him to.
