A Frivolous Creature
By PP AK
Fresh dew setting on the grass, the sharp, crisp, cold air filling the forest, birds chirping of the start of the new day singing songs of happiness, joy, and jubilee. Animals lumbering out of their holes, trees, and nests to drink in the fresh spring water. The cool liquid sliding down their throats then frolicking away, questioning what wonders they will find today in this peaceful forest.
I too jumping from tree to tree think of the things I could do. I gracefully bound to the forest floor finding a few seeds here and there munching until satisfied. Laying in the fields letting suns rays sink into my fur and warming me up. As I started feeling warm and rejuvenated I struggled to roll over. To the animals getting older is just another step towards death and nothing more, past this valley on the opposite side of life could be only equal to the heavenly valley in which we reside . Sure there are predators scattered through the valley but nothing ever to worry too much about. We both know of each others existence and accepted their nature of being. To live, to feed whether on the grass we sleep on to the flesh of others, to mate, and to die just like everything else in this world.
As I started to zig zag across the field to my tree a loud sound rang through out the valley, a sound that has never gone in my ears. Almost like the sound of a tree falling down with a loud CRACK, but not quite as a tree would ordinarily sound. Soon more and more rang out, some would go faster then others like CRACK, CRACK, CRACK, CRACK, CRACK. It doesn't seem possible that trees could crash down that fast at the same time so I took it upon myself to find what the dilemma was about. I leaped and sprang from tree to tree, as I got closer the sounds of the birds cut off, no animals were in site, and as I grew near a strong smell permeate the air, the smell of blood.
A strong sense of fear overwhelmed me, the feel of death's present glommed through the air, but my curiosity pushed me on. My eyes finally set upon the creature the was making all the racket or at least one of them. It seemed to be running away from the others following it, they all carried what looked like large branches from trees but with something sleek and shiny at the front of it. The large wooden objects would explode with sparks of fire and kick back, I pondered of the nature of the objects but the one creature running from the others seemed to fear it as much as I did. It ran on two legs with great speed; the creature had almost no hair but a material on it, and had a hard shell on top of its head.
It ran faster and faster clumsily tripping and falling every few seconds and pointing that object behind it and making that spark come out. The others soon stopped, and ducked when hearing that noise but continued after that one creature again. I feared that they would eventually try that at me but didn't really care about me, or that they can't even sense my presence. I followed the one that was running, it ran and ran till the others were not in site. The creature fell the the ground and dragged itself to a tree where it leaned against it. Then to my surprise it popped its shell of its head! Never have I seen and animal so this before! Thats when I noticed the blood streaming from its head, leg and arm. Zapped off energy and the blood its lost the sense of death was in the air. It started to speak but nothing was there except me and it was looking in to the shadows. The words “Mom and dad” kept coming up what ever they mean and while wailing over the pain from the wounds water started streaming from its eyes.It was truly and odd creature.
What was the point in all this, they looked of the same species what reason would they have to kill one of their own. Furthermore as what it seemed in such a brutal way, by the way they act they can't be to bright of a species. More aggressive that any other animal I have seen. I don't even think these things could even be considered as an animal, possibly they took joy in killing others; they didn't seem sorrowful of what they were doing.
As I continued to ponder I notice that the creature suddenly stopped talking to itself and pulled something out of it, it was shiny as the thing on the objects they all carried but square. It opened the glistening new object and suddenly a bright flame came out of it and stayed at a steady glow. The creature lit something long and thin that began to smoke and breathed the toxic fumes in. How odd, did it have any purpose, curious about everything it carried I inched closer. After a while the long object evaporated in to smoke. It then lit the square object one more time and extended its appendage towards the grass it sat by. Would it be so vengeful to burn down this valley just to get the ones responsible for its death and to take everything not involved with it? Surly it knows the consequence of its intent, why would anything want to destroy a beautiful paradise such as this?
The creature started looking up the tree in front of it and suddenly its eyes locked on mine. It stared for a good long time, frozen with fear I couldn't move or think only sit and wait for it to die. Its lips suddenly curved going from ear to ear, like a sign of joy. It made the flam disappear and continued to stare, suddenly his eyes started to close, and murmured something. His body went limp and gaining control of my body, dashed up the tree. I stayed and stared for a long while myself, soon more of them showed up. They looked a lot more like the dead one then the other group before. They showed no expression like the one I followed only picked it up and carried it away.
With all that I've learned from observing these events I can only be confused about these odd creatures. They seem to be very aggressive with little reason, they lack the senses normal animals have almost like they are unaware of what is around them and the wonders it holds. There is also a deep evil to these creatures, even thought the one I watch had the thought of using that object to burn the valley down but had the heart not to. It still shows that if they can even form a thought to do such a thing some will. I've concluded that these monstrosities are nothing but frivolous creatures. Hopefully they aren't that big of a population yet, that they will just kill themselves off in attempt to be to be greater then one another.
In nature everything is balance, without one thing disaster would strike. With out the trees we would have no home, without food or an animal some would die off; anything disappearing would mean the death of us. But this creature seems to cause nothing but destruction, without this creature I think no harm would come to anything, and if anything the world would be a better place. If some higher power did create this graceful place why would this higher power create something so greedy and destructive that it would destroy this utopia, our Shangri-la. I can only hope for the quick, and painless destruction of these creature for the better of the world.
