Prolog
Part One
Part Two <--- You Are Here
Vivian was left alone in the world of black. The world created from her own mind as she curled up inside of it. She had gone there for protection and only found pain. Her skin grew cold, draining of life. Her eyes became a dull listless gray. Her breath hitched in her throat and she coughed and then choked before falling still. Falling, falling, falling…down. Heavy eyes, little by little, sinking closed.
Then, abruptly, she was surrounded by a dangerously bright white energy. It gripped at her hair and yanked her from the sweet comfort of unconsciousness. Only to allow her to realize that it wasn’t energy, but a man, who had hold of her hair. Vivian growled as the man pulled her back up. She found that the room she was in had gone and that another took its place.
This new room was one that was all too familiar. The walls were a gentle lavender color as was the ground. Both made up of cobblestone, appearing ancient and regal. The room was reminiscent of a palace throne room from the days of old. There was no throne in this room however.
Upon the walls were paintings in stark blacks, whites, and grays. Paintings of the past, the present, and the future? There was some color to these paintings. A color that truly glorified the artwork. In every one there was a contrasting red element. Blood.
Magnificent battles filled the canvases. Visions of power and fury clouded the eyes. Expressions of anguish and torturous pain filled the faces of the dying men and women. Gashes hacked sadistically into the stomach or chest of an unsuspecting warrior. Particles of flesh and muscle torn from bone were flung about the scene. The warriors’ cries could almost be heard through the painted images.
Humans and demons and angels all battling for idle causes. Vivian thought.
It was the battles themselves that sparked Vivian’s interest. Not the purpose for which they were fought. For she knew the reasons, knew the rimes of centuries long past that told the stories of her people and the people of the other realms. They fought for the petty reasons that humans wage war. In reality all the races were the same. Pathetic, insignificant, and close-minded.
Death, conversely, was something that mesmerized and intrigued Vivian. It was something always on her mind but never in her reach. She couldn’t die, at least not to her knowledge. She dreamt about it, felt it; she could experience it through others and through her dreams. But she couldn’t die.
That’s why this room had always interested her. It was forbidden to enter, but she had been coming to the area for as long as she could remember. In fact it was in that very room that the whole mess, she was in, started. There was another thing that had drawn her to this place. And now she was looking at it because she was forced to, not because she wanted to.
Setting before her, there was an extravagant and mysterious mirror of silver. It shimmered like moonlight, swaying and seeming never to remain still. Instead of showing a reflection within its depths, one would see another world. The human world to be exact. And to give a more precise location and image, within the mirror there was a beach where the moon hung low in the sky and the stars etched the surrounding area around it. And upon the beach there was a boy.
Vivian’s eyes widened and her lips parted on a gasp of anguish and longing. Kai… This wasn’t just any scene that she was viewing. This was the very panorama she had seen before she was thrown into the events that led up to the unfortunate one she was in now. That was where it had all started.
“That’s right, Angel of the Arcane… This is where it began…and this…is where it shall end…”
