    --------

tab Reede made his way towards the wooden fence of the village. The tops of the buildings far outstretched the ten foot high wall. They were a mix of wooden structures built from the forests on Journey and alien structures built with strange metals from the homelands of different Travelers. It was a bizarre sight for newcomers, but it became normal to see villages like this over time on Journey.
tab The shadows from the buildings were stretching out towards Reede as he approached the gate. The gaseous clouds in the sky were drifting off into the horizon. These were called "Lumo" and provided heat and light to Journey. They were composed of a chemical similar to sulfar, but more volatile. Carried in the atmosphere by the planets winds, which were controlled by Journeys core rotations, they gave enough "sunlight" for the needs of the Travelers.
tab The Travelers claimed that 3 rotations was an average day on Journey and each rotation took six hours in human time. It would be dark until they made there way back around the planet, so Reede picked up his pace. He wanted to make sure the Club wasn't going to leave without him.
tab He approached the gate guard, who was checking the contents of a fruit wagon leaving town.
tab "Well, all there seems to be no bad produce here," he shouted as he checked the last crate on the wagon for any infected fruits. "All healthy as can be. Best get these to Poln quickly. I think a storm might be coming during the next light cycle"
tab "Thanks for the warning Hishel. See you next week."
tab The driver flipped the motor switch and the wagon started to move ahead. Wagons on Journey were powered by motors created by the Scribes. They used a strange energy source found in some of the crystals on Journey and powered most devices on the planet.
tab When Reede reached the gate, Hishel turned to face him.
tab Hischel was a Traveler who landed on Journey forty years ago after he and several others of his kind fled their homeland of Koeket, which had seen many years of civil war.
tab Hishel had fought in those wars and decided to leave with his family and several others to escape the conflict. By chance they came across Journey drifting in the endless space and landed their craft upon it.
tab Once on Journey, the Koeketens were immediately excepted with open arms and soon learned the basic tongue of the Travelers. Of all the Travelers on Journey, they resembled the humans most of all. They had no hair on their beige colored bodies at all. Apart from the four eyes, the only other difference was their large ears, which did nothing to help them hear any better.
tab Hishel joined the Journeymen when the first invaders landed. Afterwards he spent most of his time as the south gate guard for Liccol.
tab "You seem to be doing well, four-eyes," Reede cackled as he approached Hishel. Hishel's four eyes looked at Reede and his face scowled.
tab "You know you are quite rude Mr. Jackson. I should inform your father about you're behavier."
tab "Like I care," Reede smirked back at Hishel as he started to walk past. "You can go and tell the old man Im joining the circus for all I care."
tab Reede stopped and turned towards Hishel, his tone more curious.
tab "Why are you a guard anyway? You're a Journeymen aren't you? You have never left Liccol once. Don't you want to see what the rest of Journey is like? Or find out what else is out in space?"
tab Hishel closed his two right eyes and looked up at the Lumo fading into the distance. His mouth twitched a bit before he spoke.
tab "I saw enough battles on my home planet before I ever came to Journey. I joined the Journeymen because I wanted to protect this planet if any danger ever threatened it, not to have adventures. If Journey is safe then there is no need for me to move about. I am quite happy to be here with my family. Protecting this town is enough excitement for me young Jackson."
tab "You're just like my father," Reede sighed. "You two should get together and start the first ever "Boring Life Group". You can sit there and talk about the exciting life of growing plants or watching people come and go into town. That would be fun wouldn't it?"
tab Reede shook his head and breathed one heavy sigh.
"Adults are all the same. So happy with doing nothing everyday. Well, I've got to go. Business to take care of. See you four-eyes!"
tab Reede continued on into town as the stars began to appear in the sky heading. Hishel raised and hand and scratched his large earlobe.
tab "Young ones these days. He still has alot more to see before he relizes the truth of life."
tab Hishel turned to watch the last traces of the clouds dissapear as the darkness came to Liccol.
    "And what is a Sercus?"
