On June 12, 2009, two teenagers left their houses at exactly eleven fifty-three. It’s interesting because their destinies are all intertwined. The older of the two was Jeremy Wilcon, a sixteen years of age. He had piercing ice blue eyes, a long heart-shaped face, and skater-styled brown hair. He took what he could and dashed out of the house when he was sure that everyone was asleep.
The middle one was Sarah Kilmer, fifteen years of age. She had many angelic features. Long black hair, with bangs off to a side, a short, almost circular face, and brown eyes that looked red in the night. Her skin was pale white. She also had two piercings on her lower lip that most people called spider bites. She had many things to choose from to bring and she just grabbed her iPod, blankets, and ten dollars.
Jeremy decided he would go to the park for the time being. He ducked under the baseball bleachers and pressed himself under the second-lowest bench. He was extremely skinny, but very tall. He settled himself by rustling in the grass.
Sarah ran out of her house as her mother yelled at her that she would come back begging for forgiveness. She rolled her eyes and ran to the park. She looked around and sat under the baseball bleachers. She heard a quiet rustling and called out, “Hello? Who’s there?”
Jeremy looked up and wasn’t going to answer but at the last moment he replied, “Why are you here?” The voice sounded female, very airy sounding; like wind chimes. He crawled in the direction of the voice and when he finally got to her, he froze. Jeremy studied the angel before him. Her eyes glistened red in the moonlight.
Sarah looked at him with wide eyes. She slowly dug in her pocket and grabbed her flashlight. She shined it on his face and her heartbeat quickened. He was so handsome, he had to be inhuman. She breathed heavily and finally stuttered out, “I- I’m uh, Ask.” It was her nickname; it suited her because she asked many questions.
“I’m Jeremy.”
Ask. The name echoed in Jeremy’s head like a chorus. It had begun to rain and the moment felt like it would take place in a fantasy book. Ask smiled lightly, but hid it under her hands. It wasn’t normal for her to smile. Jeremy smiled his perfect white smile and yawned. “Well, um. Maybe we should go to sleep.”
Ask nodded slowly and pulled a blanket out of her bag. “Do you want one?”
Jeremy smiled and said, “Sure. Thanks.” He took a blanket out of her bag too and lay down. He dug his face in the cool ground. He like the feeling. Being cold made him happy.
Sarah, now Ask, was still sitting up, waiting and watching the storm. It would be better if they moved since they were under metal and it looked like lightning would strike anytime- there you go. Lightning just flashed through the sky and lit up the night. She turned to Jeremy and poked his back. When he didn’t wake up, she shook his shoulder a bit. “Come on, wake up.” She whispered.
Jeremy finally awoke and looked up at Ask’s worried and frantic face. He had noticed the lightning flash under his eyelids. Knowing that she probably wanted to move, he pointed to the bushes. He was afraid to open his mouth because he was still half asleep and could have said something really stupid. She nodded and crawled with him.
Jeremy fell back asleep almost immediately. He usually had nightmares, but tonight he had a good dream. He was at home, he had friends, and he was popular. But the dream had turned dark and bleak quickly. Devilish grins were painted across their faces and their eyes turned an off-putting shade of red. He screamed and began running, of course not knowing that he had actually screamed in his sleep.
Ask was startled by this and woke up. She looked over at Jeremy, who was twisting and struggling in his sleep. She crawled slowly over to him and whispered in his ear, “Please, no more bad dreams.”
Jeremy was awake now, and smiled lightly. He felt happy that Ask cared about his dreams. He looked at his digital watch that glowed blue. It read five fifteen a.m. He decided not to go back to sleep and he sat up, meeting face to face with Ask. “Oh, uh. Sorry.”
Ask shook her head and her face flushed light red. “No, it’s fine.”
Jeremy nodded and smiled. “Okay. Uh, would you mind if I asked you something?”
Ask shrugged and said, “Fire away!”
“Why did you run away?”
Ask’s eyes widened and she cleared her throat.
