• Chapter One
    The Dream

“Hey, you come back here with that, you thief!” A man yelled as he chased after me. “That is my dinner you just stole!”
I ran as fast as my four legs could carry me, the dead goose dangling from my massive jaws. He chased me with his bow pulled back ready to fire. He let go, the arrow sailed through the air and struck me in the left thigh.
“Ha, ha, I finally got you,” He sneered.
I struggled to my paws, blood gushing out of my thigh. The arrow had purple ooze dripping off of it. Poison, I thought as I dropped the goose to pull the arrow out. I hate these damn hunters; I was just hungry for some food. I haven’t eaten for three weeks. I winced in pain as I pulled the poisoned arrow out off my thigh, but the man was there quickly, pulling out a dagger.
“I never want to see you again!” He yelled as the dagger came through the air like a missile. I felt nothing. I opened my eyes to see a large grey wolf biting the man’s hand that was holding the dagger.
“Megan, run now,” the wolf screamed. I scrambled to my feet and grabbed the goose.
“Who are you,” I asked through the feathers of the goose.
“I’m your father, Megan, run now!” I stared in amazement. My father! The last time I saw him, my mother was dying from the hunters. I thought he died with her. I have to help him. I dropped the goose and in spite of my injury, I jumped on the man’s back.
“Megan, I thought I told you to run,” he yelled.
“I’m not loosing you again.” I said as my father let go of the hunter’s hand. I jumped off and grabbed the goose. “Hurry father, come with me.”

I opened my eyes, it was raining. Thank God it was only a dream. I was lying under a large apple tree. I felt my body, I was human. I got up and ran out into the rain. I was different though, I wasn’t all human. I could turn into a wolf. I also had huge wings.
You see, I’d been having strange dreams about my father. When I was very little, my mother was killed by hunters. She was only wolf, but my father can turn into a human. Then they went after my father. He picked me up and ran away with me dangling his jaws. He set me down under this apple tree and told me to stay there. Then he ran off back to where the hunters and my mother were. I herd a gunshot. Then it was silent. Then the hunters walked out of the bushes. They were dragging my mother and father. At that moment I transformed into a little seven-year-old girl. I was wearing a large brown cloak that was old and tattered. The men saw the flash of light and walked over to the tree where I was weeping and knocked me out. Killing a white wolf, is against the law, since they’re an endangered species. And mother was a white wolf. Since then, I have been living in the forest by my self.
I heard rustling in the bushes behind me. I saw a rabbit jump out and a wolf chasing it. The wolf was a grey with a white chest. It stopped and stared at me and then went on chasing the rabbit.
“That was weird,” I said quietly. “He didn’t try to attack me.” I just shrugged my shoulders as the rain started to stop. I was soaking wet from sleeping in the rain.
“Maybe I should go into town and get something to eat. Hmm, I guess the closest town would be Taralo Village.” I got down on my hands and knees and gripped the dirt. I began transforming into a wolf.
I flexed my claws as I stretched. My stomach growled a big long groan. I headed to the town. The village was a ways of so I ran as fast as I could. The dream kept rushing through my head, it felt so real.
After about fifteen minutes I was finally there. I changed back to human form, shrank my wings so they were useable, and walked out of the bushes. I pulled my hood down so no one could see my face.
There were a bunch of men walking into the village as well. They looked like they had just come back from a battle. There was also a boy about fifteen walking into the village with them. He glanced in my direction and I backed up into the shadows.
    I screamed.
I looked down and saw something silver in my stomach. A bearspike. I stepped forward and fell to the ground. The boy ran up to me with a woman at his side. I looked at my stomach. Blood was gushing out of it. The boy picked me up and carried me to a house with a red cross on the front of it. My eyes became very heavy and began to close.
Then the image of father, “Hold on Megan, stay awake.” I felt someone grab my hand. I opened my eyes to see the boy holding my hand. I looked around to see I was on a bed.
The boy stood up, “She’s alright,” he yelled.
“W-where am I, who are you?”
“You’re at my house. My mother’s a nurse and our house is a hospital. My name is Trevor. I just got back from fighting a battle. I gasped; he was fighting in a battle?!
“Exactly how old are you, Trevor?”
He sat down on the end of the bed and looked at me strait in the eye. “I’m only fifteen, but I wanted to fight for the right of my people.”
I stared at him, He’s so young, and I can’t believe he would fight at such a young age. And what does he mean by ‘fight for the right of my people?’ All of a sudden, I felt hot and blacked out.

    “Are you alright?”
I opened my eyes, and saw Trevor and a woman standing over me. I turned my head and looked out the window, it was pitch black outside. “What time is it,” I asked weakly.
“The sun went down about an hour ago.” The woman replied looking at me with a worried look on her face. “Are you alright? You’ve been passed out for about six hours. I was just hopping you were okay.”
I about jumped out of my skin when she said that. Six hours?! Damn, that’s a long time to be passed out.
    “So are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” I replied smiling, but my smile turned into a frown. “Trevor, do you have parents?”
“Oh,” he chuckled, “this is my mother, but father. . .” he paused as a tear dripped out of his clear blue eyes.
“Trevor, don’t cry, its okay.” The tears started swelling up in my eyes as well. “My father died to, along with my mother. You’re very lucky that you still have your mother with you.” I sat up (it hurt but I did anyway) and put my arms around him and held him close and kissed his cheek.
We cried together until his mother brought us some rags to wipe our eyes. When we had pulled ourselves together, we were able to tell about our lives.
Trevor was born in a little village called Woodlands Peak. He moved here with his mother and father to find peace after Daiki murdered Princess Zenia last year. Then how he went to war to help his father and kill Daiki once and for all.
He seemed anxious to hear about my life. So I told him about how my mother and father had met and how we were separated from each other.
“Well, my parents met one day on a full moon night when the sky was clear and the air, so crisp. He fell in love with her and they decided to get married.” I left out the part where they’re wolves and my mother ran away from her pack. “Then they had my three brothers, my sister, and I. But one of my brothers was actually my twin. His name was Kyle. We looked a lot like each other. Then one day a really bad storm hit. It was a terrible blizzard. That’s when I lost Ally, Ryan, and Alex, my other siblings. Kyle and I were the only ones who survived. A year or two after that, we were walking through the woods and came across a pack of wolves.” I paused to breathe as the image of Kyle, Father, and Mother came to mind, “That’s when I lost Kyle. My mother was devastated. She began to get stricter by the day. She would snap at the smallest things like ‘hello’ or I love you’. When I turned seven, I lost both of them to hunters.”
“So, the hunters shot your parents on accident?” Trevor asked.
“No, they meant to shoot them. You see, I’m...well...not really human.” I grabbed a sharp peace of rock I used to hunt with and tore two holes in the back of my tunic. My wings rolled out and spread out.
“What the hell! Why do you have wings?” He screamed. I wiped the tears that left streaks on my face dirty face.
“I can’t help it,” I sobbed, “I was born this way. I know, I’m a freak.” I jumped up to run out and get back to the woods where I belong, but my wounds kept me from going far and I fell flat on my face.
He ran to my side and tried helped me up. I pushed him away and sat on the floor crying. He knelt next to me and touched my wings.
“Don’t touch them.” I shrank them into back and wiped my nose. His mother also knelt down beside me and put an arm on my shoulder.
“Don’t be angry, we were just, surprised that’s all.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you upset.” He placed his hand on my own.
I looked up and sniffed, “No, I’m sorry. I guess I’m like my mother, just snapping at everything.” He scooped me up and placed me on the bed.
“Wow Mom, you were right. She doesn’t way anything at all.” We all laughed.
“Alright, dinner should be done in a while. Trevor, I want you to help…”
    “Megan,” I replied.
“Megan, to the dinner table. What a lovely name Megan is, and it’s perfect for a lovely girl.” I blushed and we all laughed again. Trevor’s mother walked out of the room. Trevor and I sat there for a minute not saying anything. Suddenly we heard a gun shot outside. Trevor stood up and walked to the window in my room.
“There back,” he hissed. He quickly turned around and scooped me up. He ran out of the room and down the hall. I could see flames outside of the windows we passed. People screaming and guns firing. Trevor ran into an open door and closed it behind him. I couldn’t see anything.
“Mom,” he whispered, “Mom, are you down here.” Trevor set me down on what seemed to be stone. I heard him move around a bit before I saw light. He came back with a lit torch. “Can you walk,” he asked me in a hushed tone.
    “Yes, what’s going on?”
“Daiki’s army must have followed us here.” I stood up slowly and tried to walk. It hurt, but I could walk. Then I remembered something. I reached into the pocket of my cloak and pulled out a small bottle of red liquid.
    “What is that?”
“Nothing,” I unwrapped the bloody cloth off of my waist and poured the potion on it. It stung and I covered my mouth so I wouldn’t scream. My wound closed up and was healed.
“Wow. That was awesome! What was it?” Trevor screamed and covered his mouth. I put the rest of the potion back in my pocket and grabbed his hand.
“A healing potion. Come on, we’d better get out of here.” We both ran out a door and into the battle. Trevor and I ran over to a bush and jumped behind it. I backed away from the bush and Trevor a bit.
    “Where are you going?”
    “Just backing up a bit.”
    “Why?”
I gripped the dirt and pointed my face up towards the night sky. I howled at the full moon as I began to transform. Trevor’s mouth just hung open.
I walked over to him, “I’ll explain later.” I jumped out from behind the bushes and into the battle.
“This is for killing my father!” I screamed before jumping and biting the neck of one of Daiki’s troops.
I heard his neck crack and dropped him. I picked up his sword with my mouth and dragged it over to where Trevor was hiding. “Here, take this.”
“Uh, thanks.” He stood up and we went back into the battle. I was chasing a man and took him to the ground. I bit his neck and waited for the snap.
I heard a scream of a child and looked up. A little girl was being cornered by a soldier. I left the bleeding man and raced over. I pounced on him knocking him over. He stood up fast and swung his sword at me. I dogged it and bit his knee. He fell to the ground and I closed my canines on his side. I left him there and went over to the little girl.
“Are you okay?” I looked and saw her arm was bleeding. I walked over and licked her wound.
“No, go away puppy.” I laughed and turned into my normal self. I picked her up and took her into the woods, away from the battle.
“You’re going to be alright. I’m going to help you.” I peeked out of the trees and bolted towards Trevor’s house.
I opened the door and ran in. Trevor’s mother was screaming and swinging a chair at a big bulky soldier.
I placed the little girl down, “Stay here, I’ll be right back.” I transformed back into a wolf and took him down fast.
I ran up to Trevor’s mom, “Are you alright?”
She just stared at my white and gold fur, “Y-yeah, I-I’m fine. You’re a wolf too?”
“Yeah, I’ll explain to you and Trevor later.” I changed back into a human and carried the little girl over to Trevor’s mother, “She was attacked do you think you could help her?”
She smiled, “Of course I will, I am a doctor after all.” I smiled and ran back out into the battle. I couldn’t see Trevor anywhere.
I heard a scream and turned to see Trevor lying on the ground with a man standing over him. I raced over and socked him in the mouth. Quickly transforming, I growled at him showing my large blood stained canines. I bit his hand and he dropped his sword. I jumped up and clawed his eye. He screamed and ran off blood dripping out of his left eye.
I changed back to normal and kneeled next to Trevor. I lifted his head up and poured some of the red potion on his wound. It closed up and Trevor’s eyes opened looking up at me. Our faces were so close. He sat up and brushed the hair out of my face, tucking it behind my ear.
“Thank you,” he said leaning forward toward my face. He’s gonna kiss me, he’s gonna kiss me!
    “Retreat!”
He stopped and turned to see the enemies fleeing of down the road. Trevor jumped up in front of me with his sword when they passed us.
A boy, a little older than me, passed by chasing them. He stopped and swung his sword in the air, “And don’t come back!” He smirked and turned to see me, “So, you’re the little cutie that I heard about.” He walked right passed Trevor and grabbed my chin in his hand and turned my face up towards his and got really close to me.
He looked deep into my red eyes got close enough to kiss me when Trevor wrapped an arm around me and squeezed in between us. My face turned the same color as my eyes and I hid behind him.
“Who are you,” Trevor asked pointing his sword in the strange boys face.
The boy pushed the sword down and smiled, “No need to get violent. My name is Yuki. I already know young Megan’s name, what is yours?” I stared, how did he know my name?
“I’m Trevor; I guess you two have met before, sorry.” He backed away but I hid behind him again.
“I’ve never met him in my life.”
Trevor turned to me, “What do you mean?”
    “I mean I don’t know him.”
Trevor looked at me, confused, and then turned back to Yuki, “Have you been spying on us?”
“Why no, I have been sent to protect dear Megan from my father. You see my father is Daiki.” He smirked at Trevor and took my hand in his; it was as cold as ice.
Trevor slashed Yuki’s hand with his sword, “Don’t touch her you filthy scum rat!” Yuki grabbed his hand as it began to bleed and held it up to his lips. He licked the blood off of his hand until it stopped bleeding. I gasped, he was a vampire! I turned on my heel and ran into the Dark Woods.
“Megan!” Trevor yelled. I could hear him following me and could sense Yuki following him.
I just kept running and could hear them growing distant. My heart began to ache and I dropped to the ground clutching my chest. I over did it! Damn it, I shouldn’t have run so far!
I could hear their footsteps crunching dead leaves on the cold ground. They were getting closer and closer by the second. Soon I saw Trevor run through the trees and he kneeled by my side.
    “Megan, did you fall?”
I shook my head and could feel my throat get tighter. Yuki ran up to me and put his hand on my side. He made a worried face.
“She’s having an asthma attack; you need to get her out of here.” Yuki and Trevor got up and began to run back to Trevor’s house, with me nestled safely in Trevor's arms.
