• Amaranth sat on the bench. It was midsummer, the light of dusk illuminated the horizon. There were several green trees with leaves that rustled in the wind with colors so varying that in almost seemed surreal. Then she saw him. Zenith had short choppy black hair and eyes the color before a thunderstorm. He was rather lean and lank. He wore a black silk shirt and black jeans. She almost called his name but stopped short when she noticed who he was looking at. She had hair the color of golden sunshine and eyes as green as the leaves. She stood there and watched as the girl walked up to him. They embraced and kissed like their was no tomorrow. Then they turned towards her. Amaranth stood up, tears in her violet eyes. They almost threatened to spill over, but before they could she started running down the path. "Amaranth!" he yelled. It was to no avail. She ran into the streets, unaware that she was running right into a rather dangerous alley. The gang gathered around her. What happened next is too painful for words. They left her battered and bruised, waiting for the cold of night to finish her. Tears and blood streaked down her face. She grabbed her her jacket which hadn't been torn. It covered over everything. She went home to her empty apartment and treated her wounds. She fell into her bed and cried herself to sleep. The next day was Monday. Everyone saw her mood so gloomy and stayed away. Except for Zenith. "Amaranth? Babe are you alright? Listen I'm so sorry for what I did I promise I'll be faithful What happened to you?" he went on. By the time he was finished she was almost in tears. "Amaranth?" he asked. It reminded her so much of what happened. Her knees gave way and she started to sob. People gathered around her and began to murmur. Then Mr. Kaiser came in. He lifted up Amaranth and brought her into his office. She sat in his lap and sobbed for half an hour. Then she looked up at him and said "I'm sorry." He looked at her and asked "What happened?" She told him everything that happened. Every single detail. Afterwords he gave her a hug and a pass to class. She remained quiet for the rest of the day. When she returned home she saw no one was home again. No one was there for her. So she packed up a bag and set out. No one heard from her again.
