• The morning was calm. The house was quiet. My eyes fluttered open, revealing the blank white ceiling above me. I swung my legs over the sice of my bed and sat up.
    'Another day' I thought.
I stood and made my way to the restroom. I stripped down and stepped into the shower. I washed myself and redressed in my best clothes. Today was my day to go into town. I oulled my small basket down off my shelf and went outside. Pulling the door shut behind me, I started the long walk.
I walked down the dirt path and onto the gravel road. Through the forest and over the trickling stream to town.
It was bustling, as always. The two days per month that I came for groceries were alwats more exciting, and also more exhausting. I made my way through the small crowd that was cathered at the town center. Making my way to the bakery, a small rocking chair caught my eye.
'I do need a new rocker,' I thought, 'Mine's falling apart. I just don't have the money, though... oh well, what's a little peek going to do?'
I pushed open the door to the furniture store and stepped inside. No one was behind the desk, but I paid little attention to that fact. I found the small chair and checked the price.
'That would cost me while month's worth in groceries! Besides, how would I get it back home?' I reasoned with myself,'I may as well test it...'
I eased myself into the chair, slowly. To sit felt so good after the long walk. I hadn't realized how tired I'd become until this moment.
'I'll just rest my eyes a moment. Only long enough to regain some stamina, and no longer.' I thought.
I closed my eyes and became aware of my heartbeat, and nothing else. The beating slowed... then stopped, and everything was silent.
