Thomas walks slowly around the house looking for clues. Besides the bloody foot prints, and obviously the blade in the body, there did not seem to be any others. He was perplexed, this was not very normal, most of his cases actually had several clues. However the murderer, for it was a murder, cleaned up very well after himself. Well either that or he was carefull not to leave clues. He was bent to thinking it was a he since women could not be capable of murder and if they were it was since they were put in the position by someone else.
It was common knowledge that women pefered poison over brutallity. No women would be able to handle this much blood or such force that was put into these blows. So it all went back to a he. From the looks of it his aunts were very wealthy people and Samual was going to be a very very wealthy man. Not only would he have his own fortune but also that of his aunts. Well there was now obviously a motive here, greed for money. Thomas was already bent to think of Marcus as the guilty party. As humans are imperfect he already was making judgements against Marcus baised only on Muriel's words.
Thomas stood at the base of the steps looking down at the ground. The foot prints were definatly to large for a women. They were the size of a very very large man. He would have to look around for information on Samual's family. They should be contacted immeadiatly. Taking Swift steps he began walk away from the house, he gathered what info he needed at sight, now it was up to others to gather all evidence. He set a brisk pace down the street with his head down, hands behind his back and pursed lips. to all outsiders he had the appearance of a thinking man - someone in deep thought. Samuals aunts liked in the largest city near by - it was at least a two day journey.
His aunts would have questions of their own and being women might become histarical. of course that would only be natural samual was their "sweet little boy". Anyways it was not like he himself did not know men who went into near histerics on the battle field, afterall his own brothers went to the army at a young age. No this was by far a much more delicate matter then his own family.........
Back at his own comfortable house he sat stiffly at his writing desk. His quill rested in his ink well. Carefully he began to compose a letter fitting for the news of death......
Dear Lady Charlotte Luicus and Lady Theodora Allen
I am resigned to inform you of your nephews, Samual Burnock's, death. He was murdured last night by a blade into his body. When you recieve this letter two days will have passed. We will, as i am sure you will be glad to hear, continue the investigation. Please take a few days to travel down once you have compossed yourselves. i will be awaiting your arrival,
Your loyal servant Thomas.
He sighs quietly and places the quill down on the desk's surface and rubs his temples. this was very unpleasant bussiness, very unpleasant indeed. now he must send a second letter to samual's Brother Marcus and somehow get him down here. If Marcus was the murderer (there was no doubt in
thomas' heart) he would surely want to watch over the investigation. If he was inoccent then it would be his job to prove it.
To Marcus Burnock,
I must send my deepest regards conserning your brother Samual. Samual was found dead this morning. By the time you recieve this letter several days will have passed. please make haste to come to this village to insure your brothers revenge, your servant Thomas.
This letter along with his previous one to the aunts he put a black wax seal as the sign of death - it would be harsh to place the red seal upon the letters. red signified good news and day to day news, black was death, it was the darkness where no souls returned which no one could avoid. it held a chill that could strike a man down and rob them of their lives. black was the color of uter hopelessness, defeat, and all things evil. Black was unlucky in it it held only desease and daeth when one set their eyes upon the seal their doom was sealed.
Having finished the letters he stood up, stretching his limbs. Samual had been a beloved member of the small town, Thomas felt bound to find his murderer, but where to start? He could question the citizens, but that would do very little. No, what felt right at the moment was to Find these Aunts of his and begin to question them. They would be all to willing to help him in this investigation, but for how long god only knew. They were women and women could not handle murdur very well, especially if it was someone they loved. How could they not, especially in this case? If they were leaving Samuel their fortune then he had to be a good man. Often times Thomas had turned to a Woman's intuition to find answers to his questions, and he had always found them true. This case he belived would also be the case, He felt it in his bones. How could he not?
Still he felt it only right to send the letter ahaed of himself to give them time to adjust. Like any human being, you could not just give them terrible news and then go and question them. They would hardly be in any form able to answer through their emotions and tears. No, No, he would give them four days to adjust. By then he believed they could gather their wits about them to speak to him about the matter. Picking up his letters, Thomas headed out of the house in search of the messanger boy. He would intruct him to deliver the letters as quickly as possible, hopefull it would take the boy only two days to reach the boy....which ment six days total before he would head out to find the women himself. Six day to research the house, to question the town's people, and to think this over. This was not a matter to be hastey about, after all it was a murdur. and even if you thought you found your suspect, it was wrong to rush in and accuse them guilty without a thurough investigation. If found guilty of Murdur, the suspect would be put to death, Thomas would rather let a guilty man go than to kill an innoccent person.
