“No.” Reverie repeated. Every one looked at her in stunned silence. Finally, Arielle got up and slowly walked to Reverie’s side. Arielle glanced back at Caleb. His face was mirror shock, concern, and something Malcolm couldn’t place the meaning of. Arielle nodded and swiftly walked Reverie out of the room.
“Are you going to tell me what happened?” Arielle asked gently, violet eyes shining with concern. They were sitting on Reverie and Caleb’s bed. Reverie slowly looked up into Arielle’s face.
“I had a vision, in it I was about to do something that would cause pain, immense pain, to Caleb, also the other person in the vision. The person had been a humane youth.” She shook as she remembered but the protective wall she had made sure to place around the thought before entering the chamber of elders. “In the vision we are in the human world. And” Reverie paused shaking more violently as she remember the emotions that had surfaced in the vision “I will make sure that this one never comes true.”
“But what about-“
“Me, ha” Arielle could not believe the tension in her friends laugh, what could be making her like… this. Reverie continued on, “the emotions my future self felt in the vision, I won’t be feeling any pain.”
Arielle was shocked at her friend’s words. Reverie loved the traditions of the humans, every thing in their world that was no longer hers. Yet she was running away from it, to protect Caleb. She was angered at this thought.
Arielle had grown up and matured with Caleb so many years ago. She and the others had expected them to be married. She had been in love with him- so she had thought. Yet he had never once asked or suggested the subject. He had fallen in love with Reverie. Reverie at the time was human. Arielle had launched so many attacks on her, she was thankful Reverie had not remembered. The guilt in her heart however would be there for the depths of time.
When Reverie was reborn, created to be just like herself, altered. Something had gone wrong. She had not remembered, Arielle was thankful for this but still regretted that one time, after Reverie was altered, when she had gone into that white room with nothing but a knife, and a lighting candle. She had wanted to hear that scream that she had never heard from her, no matter how many attacks. Reverie had not screamed at one of them.
Even the single one where Arielle had made sure Caleb would not save her in time. She had not screamed. Arielle herself had been ripping her bones apart and she still had not screamed. She had just smiled that gentle smile, with tears running down her cheeks. When Arielle had shouted in fury at her. She had only replied “I’m sorry”. Arielle screamed at her again “I stole him, that is why your angry, if this is my punishment from god I will take it. I am sorry of my love, after all he was yours, but I will not take it back. And by no means will you or god make me regret it.” After that she had closed her eyes. About a split second later Arielle had been thrown against a wall. She had opened her eyes to see Caleb kissing Reverie passionately, black blood dripping when he finally placed her down. Arielle had been shocked and angered. She had fled.
She was also horrified at herself for what she had almost done to her most dear friend, just hours after she had been altered. The knife was now destroyed. But she still remembered coming into that room and seeing the girl now more beautiful than she had been as a human –which was exquisitely beyond means- and a single red tear down her cheek, a tear of pure blood. Arielle had been perplexed; she had dropped the knife and ran to the girl’s side. She had wondered how this could be, a tear, vampires couldn't cry. Yet there Reverie was, shedding a tear of pure blood, a single ruby stream running down her pearl cheek. Arielle had run to the girl, held both the girls hands, and dropped to her knees. Reverie didn’t remember. She didn’t remember anything.
Arielle walked out of the room and carefully closed the door. Reverie had fallen asleep. She hadn’t told her why she didn’t want to go to the human world, but Arielle knew it had something to do with Caleb, something obviously serious. Reverie was not the dotting wife type. She turned to see Caleb.
“She’s asleep. Do I have the right to know what’s going on here?”
“If she hasn’t told you, you don’t” Caleb had a pained look. His normally sterling silver eyes were now a sparkle mist.
All elders had voted to go back to the humane way of life. She regretted her vote. Even if she had done it for Reverie, it was now what Reverie never wanted to do again. All she knew was it was a vision, a vision that would be at the back of Reverie's mind for centuries to come, until it was forgotten, then tragically surfaced or regrettably came true.
