“SOMEBODY HELP ME!” I shouted at the road but nobody seemed to hear me. I was covered in blood and my friend was dying and no one could hear me. I couldn’t remember what the hell happened on this dark February night. The smell of the blood caused my stomach to churn as I ran out into the middle of traffic. The sad thing about it was that a police car was on my path of travel and it was only a matter of time before someone noticed me covered in blood. An officer by the last name of Weadle pulled over to the side of the road and pulled out her gun when I approached her car.
“Please you have you help me…..my….friend is dying back there….please we have to hurry.”
“Put your hands in the air….”
“There isn’t time for this; I have to save my friend. Please I can’t let him die like this. Please help me…I don’t know what is going on I just have to help my friend.”
“Dispatch, I need back up pronto. Crazy lady covered in blood on 157 just beyond County Road 507.”
“Oh screw this; I am going to help my friend.” I muttered as I turned around to run the other direction where my friend was laying in a pool of blood; the officer was shouting for me to stop but I had to get help one way or another, even if it meant that I would end up in jail for running from the cops. I screamed when I arrived back at which I had left my friend to get help; a pack of wild dogs were trying to eat him alive.
“GET AWAY FROM HIM! Mathew, can you hear me? Mathew don’t…..you…do…this….to…me…..you… cant leave me like this….i need you here.” I cried as I fell to my knees beside him and tried to get the bleeding to stop.
“Dispatch we need an ambulance, same location.” Officer Weadle muttered through the walkie-talkie; she moved closer to me to place handcuffs around one of my wrists as I tried to help Mathew. It was too late when the ambulance had arrived; he was pronounced dead on the scene. I had been placed in the back seat of the police car.
“LET ME OUT OF HERE DAMNIT! I HAVENT DONE ANYTHING WRONG, ALL I DID WAS TRY AND GET YOUR ATTENTION BUT YOU WOULDN’T LISTEN AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED! MY BEST FRIEND IS DEAD BECAUSE YOU WOULDN’T LISTEN TO ME.!” I shouted through the window that had been rolled down so I wouldn’t die from the heat. A white van had pulled up to the scene of the crime and the door opened next to me and officer Weadle began to question me.
“I don’t have time to take you back to the station so I need to ask you some questions. First of all, what is your name?”
“Izebella Helsing”
“Can you tell me what happened to Mathew?”
“I can’t remember s**t okay? I don’t remember anything past nine thirty. What time is it now?”
“Two in the morning”
“All I can remember is Mathew and I were taking a walk to his house and that is all I remember. I think that was about eight thirty. Why am I covered in blood?”
“I was hoping you would be able to tell me that.”
“I don’t remember, seriously I can’t remember what day of the week it is or where I live or anything. What the hell is going on?”
“Look Izebella, until you can remember what happened I have no choice but to turn you over to the asylum staff who is here now. As far as I’m concerned, you did this to Mathew. We got some blood from Mathew and we need to take some of your blood and the blood on your clothing. Once we have the results back I will come visit you…..”
“I feel dizzy…” I muttered as I rubbed my head and my chest while the room began to spin faster and faster.
“How many fingers am I holding?”
“Sixteen”
“Get the ambulance over here now! Stay with me Izebella.”
“Who called for the ambulance?”
“I did, now make sure that she isn’t about to pass out and die on me.”
“What seems to be the problem?” The hospital staff could ask occasionally but everything sounded as if it was underwater. They repeated the questions twice so I could hear. I tried to answer any questions that they had for me but I couldn’t even understand what I was saying. I did hear Officer Weadle saying that I was rubbing at my head and chest but everything else sounded foggy.
“Stay with me Izebella, everything is going…:”
“It appears that this might be her blood; here’s that blood sample from her clothing, and here’s the blood sample from her. Izebella can you hear me?” I had been asked but I couldn’t hear anything because the room was spinning out of control and I couldn’t take it any longer. I rubbed my chest again and the hospital staff seemed to take notice of it. As he touched it I blacked out for a second or two before waking up only to pass out altogether a minute later. When I woke up, I wasn’t in a hospital or underground, I was in the asylum strapped to a bed with an IV in my arm.
“Izebella how are you feeling?” Officer Weadle asked when I opened my eyes.
“Like s**t, where the hell am I? And who the hell are you?” I asked with so much confusion that nothing made since anymore.
“My name is Officer Weadle, and you’re in the asylum for killing your best friend Mathew. We got the results back from the lab today and what didn’t make since is your blood didn’t appear to be human. Mathew’s blood was on your clothing, some of it was your from when he tried to fight you off but other than that, all evidence points to you killing him.”
“WHAT? I WOULD NEVER HURT MATHEW! HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT? GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HEAD!” I screamed and the asylum staff pulled Officer Weadle out of the room to take care of me.
“Izebella glad to see you’re awake. You’ve been out cold for ten days; you’ve been admitted here because you actually did kill your friend Mathew. The funeral was two days ago but you were out cold. You need to relax because you’re going to be here for a long time until you can remember and when that happens you’ll be transferred to another hospital for further testing before going to jail for the rest of your life. How rude of me, I’m Dr. Straton. Hold still Izebella, this won’t hurt a bit”
“DON’T YOU ******** TOUCH ME b***h! Don’t…..”
“Nurse, take her to her room. Use the straight jacket if you have to; she’ll put up a fight. Off with you.” Dr. Straton muttered as everything once again went black. It seemed another ten days went by before I woke up to see Officer Weadle sitting in a chair watching me. I turned over and went back to sleep because I didn’t want to talk to anyone not even my own family who was waiting outside to see me. Everyone turned against me after what happened to Mathew, but I felt so alone. I killed my own best friend; he trusted me just as I had trusted him, and now he was dead; dead because of me. I had nothing left to live for but I could have died if I hadn’t gotten help.
I felt sicker with each passing second; the sickness was brought on by not eating for days on end but that was what IV’s were for. One morning when I woke up I could have sworn I saw Mathew sitting in the chair next to my bed.
“Mathew?”
“Just go with it Mason.”
“Yes Izebella, it is me Mathew. What happened to me?”
“What do you mean?” I asked with confusion. I didn’t understand what was going on.
“Look at me Izzy, I’m covered in blood and I have cuts everywhere. What happened?”
Shock encased my face as I started to remember what happened. Tears were falling as I turned away from him. “Get away from me Mathew; I’m a hideous monster. It’s better if you stay away from me for a long time until I can get myself under control. Please don’t ask questions about it, just do as I ask and everything will be perfectly okay.” I muttered along with the flashback.
“Keep with it Mason.”
“What do you mean Izzy?” With sudden guilt I snapped out of the flashback and became more aware of my surroundings. I realized that Mathew was dead and there was no way in hell that I could be talking to him.
“You tricked me; Mathew is dead. You ******** tricked me… YOU ******** TRICKED ME DAMN IT! I COULD HAVE KILLED YOU IF I HADNT HAVE SNAPPED OUT OF THE FLASHBACK. I could have killed you…..GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME……I’m a monster, get away from me. Just stay back. LEAVE NOW!” I shouted at the new-comer. I couldn’t believe that he looked like someone I once knew and cared about. I kind of liked this new person but I couldn’t hurt someone I liked again. I promised myself that after what happened to Mathew. Tears were falling from my eyes as I started to rock my self back and forth while grabbing at my wrist.
“It’s okay Izebella, I trust you not to hurt me.” The new comer muttered as he grabbed my hand. I pulled away and picked something up to throw it at him.
“GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM DAMN IT!” I shouted. My knees gave way while I cried and curled into a ball. The new comer picked me up and placed me in my bed before turning to leave. The doctor took his place.
“Izebella you need to eat something. It’s been almost three weeks since you’ve last eaten. While you were out we tried to force feed you but nothing would work. Dinner is in ten minutes and I will have something special brought to you. Don’t worry about it, just eat it. You’ll feel better.” The doctor would mutter while I cried. Sure enough ten minutes later food was brought. The smell of it made my stomach churn. There appeared to be steak on the plate and corn but I didn’t touch the corn. I ate the meat like a wild dog would if it had thumbs. What I didn’t realize was that I was being watched by the cops, the asylum staff and the FBI while I ate. I slowed my chewing enough to taste what I eat and looked at the steak again. I spat it out immediately; the steak was raw and I had just eaten half of it for the blood. I never finished the meal and the asylum staff walked back into the room.
“The steak is cooked Izebella, I promise you that. Look at it, I promise you it is cooked.” I did as I was asked, it really was cooked, but I saw it as raw. Still I didn’t trust the food so I didn’t finish eating. Another problem that the staff had with me is that I would stay awake all night and sleep during the day. The only meal that I would eat was dinner and they got annoyed with me.
“What are you doing awake at this hour Izebella? It’s three in the morning, you should be asleep.”
“I can’t sleep, and I keep hearing voices telling me things; terrible things. I can’t take this place much longer...”
“What happened to your wrist?”
“I did that with my teeth, what are you going to do about it?” I half smiled revealing my teeth.
