CHAPTER 104 - DON'T LEAVE ME AGAIN
What were the chances that your boyfriend was willing to let you stay home alone for a week when you have immortality-granting blood that all Vampires and Werewolves are after and he was your only protection? Not very good chances...so why not take advantage of it?
"Arisa, table four needs you," Manager Uratada pointed out while cradling little Nozomi to her chest.
I nodded, "Okay," and I made my way over to the table.
It was my third full day of work and things couldn't feel more right. I was back with my old co-workers and my boss. Kai was sitting at the corner table near the window. It felt as though nothing had changed; except for the fact that Kai was leaving at night. I had spent the past three days straight just complaining that I didn't want him to leave. I was overreacting and I knew that; I wanted to see how far I could push him to where he would get the nerve to tell me to shut up; it didn't work.
As soon as I finished serving the couple at table four, Manager Uratada granted me a fifteen minute break and I immediately rushed over to Kai. I ignored Kaia's frequent peeks at Kai while she was waiting other tables. As soon as I stopped next to Kai--who was musing at the pastel sunset out the large window--he constricted one arm around my hips and pulled me close to his side as he kept sitting down. He took my other hand in his and kissed the back of my hand.
"You look beautiful," he smiled lightly.
"You've said that the past three days I've worked here," I giggled. "What are you gazing at?"
"The sunset, although it's difficult to see behind the buildings," Kai sighed then frowned. "We should depart soon so I can pack my bags."
I whined and stomped my feet like a child, "You're not leaving,"
He cocked an eyebrow at me with a smirk on his face; a challenge, "I don't want to leave either, but I need to assist them,"
"Wait for another hour," I frowned. "That's when I'm off."
"Can do," he pulled me down and kissed my throat.
I sat and we had little conversation during the rest of my break. I hurried to the back of the restaurant as soon as my shift was over early so I could say goodbye to Kai. I exited out of the side door of the building, the same door I exited where that one Vampire attacked me, where we first met Akatsuki. Kai had been waiting for me just a few feet from the side door and he took my hand in his gently and immediately. I was just about to ask him why he finally waited at the side door instead of the street like usual and he answered me before I could ask.
"There's a Vampire nearby," he informed, pulling me to the curb. "You're fine as long as you're with me."
For some odd reason, my heart didn't speed up at the fact that there was a Vampire nearby. I knew I was safe with Kai but he was leaving in just a couple of hours so who knew if I would be safer without Kai? He helped me into his car and he took off at a normal human speed as soon as he climbed into his side of the car. He took his time to drive back home, although he was still going a little over eighty; that was his "sluggish" speed.
The ride home was about twenty minutes and the sun was barely peeking over the mountains, bidding its farewell. Kai helped me out of the car and opened the front door for me. I crossed my arms after entering and I went into the bedroom. The more and more seconds that went by, the more and more my heart was aching about Kai leaving. Why couldn't they bring me along?
"Like I said; you've never really had alone time before." Kai nudged me between my shoulderblades with his knuckles.
I only sighed and climbed onto the bed, sitting cross-legged and staring out the wall-tall window on the left side of the bed. Kai packed his things at an abnormal speed--to humans--and I only entertained myself by watching the last few inches of the sun sink behind the mountains in the distance. I uncrossed my legs and sat up straight with my legs extended in front of me. After another few seconds, Kai subtly climbed onto the bed behind me and wrapped his arms around me. He pulled me back gently so my backside was leaning against his torso and he nuzzled my head.
"You're awfully quiet," he whispered to me. "Are you that apprehensive?"
"Of course I am," I frowned. "I'm going to be lonely; I'll be Vampire food."
"Don't say that," I could hear the disapproval in Kai's voice. "But speaking of food..."
He brushed some of my hair away from my neck and I voluntarily leaned my head over to expose my fragile skin. His fangs fastened into my flesh without another word and he started drinking. One of his hands started caressing one side of my waist, causing me to squirm and giggle. I tried to ignore the nauseous feeling after hearing my own blood being sucked out of my neck and down Kai's throat. He seemed to be pretty thirsty; he hadn't bitten me since we stayed at that hotel the day before we moved in, so it was about a week maybe a little more.
"Take as much as you need," I whispered to him as he was holding me closer.
He continued to drink slowly but in large swigs. I was already being thrown off balance but it wouldn't stop me from supressing his appetite; would he even feed in the city? Kai would usually have problems with feeding from normal humans because he's so used to my unusual blood that normal human blood is so discreet. I turned my head a little and kissed his cheek lighly and ran one hand through his hair. He held me yet closer and after one last large gulp he pulled away with free-flowing blood still partially in his mouth, causing some to drip on me. I held my breath to keep myself from passing out and Kai kissed my jawline with his bloody lips.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I took too much."
"No, you're fine," I whispered back while shaking my head. "I'm just pathetic."
"You have no idea how long I can argue with that," he frowned as I turned my head towards him.
He cleaned the blood off of around his mouth with his sleeve and we stared at each other for a few minutes, not speaking a word. I adjusted my position so I was leaning against Kai's torso on my side rather than my back. He lightly gripped my chin with his thumb and index fingers of his right hand and pulled me in slowly for a light kiss. He had another twenty to thirty minutes before he would leave, so why not just have another moment with him? It almost felt as though we were kissing before a permanent goodbye but it felt that way; we hadn't been without each other for that long before, except for when I was at Akatsuki's.
I turned around to face Kai and my arms wrapped around his neck and we leaned in for a few more light kisses, "You didn't forget anything, did you?"
"No," he shook his head while keeping his eyes closed and pecking my lips. "I have something for you in the means of self-defense."
Self-defence should never be included in a sentence about me. I was hardly strong enough to defend myself but if Kai had something for me, then it must have meant he was truly concerned. I pulled away from him to sit down on the bed again and he teleported from the bed to the bathroom, bandaged my neck quickly, and teleported to the dresser. He lowered himself onto his knees and opened the bottom drawer and started rummaging through my clothes. I blushed lightly but it would have been worse if it was my underwear drawer he was searching through.
"Here," Kai knocked me out of my daydream. "Take this."
As soon as I looked over at him, I froze exactly where I was. I was staring down the barrel of a pistol and I instantly hit the deck and layed myself down on the bed, "Oh God, don't hurt me!"
"Wow, Arisa," Kai chuckled and helped me sit up. "Take it."
I hesitantly took the gun in hand and grunted at how heavy it was. The thing was damn near two pounds! I held it with two hands and turned it around, noticing something familiar about the gun.
"It's a Necromantic Hunter gun," Kai informed. "Take it with you until I come back; shoot any Vampire or Werewolf that attacks you."
I nodded and continued to stare at the metallic pistol as Kai finished packing his things, "You remembered your sunlight suppressent pills, right Kai?"
"This time, yes," he rolled his eyes as he brought his last suitcase into the bedroom.
I climbed off of the bed and put the gun on the top of the dresser. I heaved up one of Kai's suitcases and drug it out into the living room, cursing myself for my pathetic strength. Kai chuckled from behind me and took the suitcase from me with ease. I opened the front door for him and he exited swiftly and gracefully with his heavy luggage in hand. The trunk of his car opened and he stuffed his luggage into it and shut the trunk. He looked over at me and I hadn't realized I was staring with a saddened face until he approached me and pressed his thumb in between my eyebrows.
"Quit frowning," he disapproved with a sigh.
"Kai..." I looked down, "the last time we were apart was when you left me." I mumbled, incredibly paranoid.
Kai's hand reached the back of my head and he pulled me close to him and he kissed my head. I sighed, disappointed in myself for reacting so severely to a mere week-long trip Kai was taking. I had no clue why, but I was just having the fear that Kai was leaving again. It was more likely an apocolypse would happen before he would ditch me again, but the fear still lingered. I wouldn't know why Kai would ever want to leave me--except for my own protection.
"I'll be back in a week, I promise," he barely tugged on my hair so I would look up at him. "I promise."
"I trust you," I smiled faintly. "And be safe."
"I promise that as well," he nodded while closing his eyes, giving me his vow.
We walked over to Kai's car and he opened the door, inching himself closer to his departure. He cupped my face in his large hands and kissed me roughly. I only stood still and clenched the hems of my pants at my side. He inserted a little bit of his tongue and I allowed him to do so. We kissed for another half minute and we pulled away. I embraced him one more time and he slowly climbed into the car. He grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it once more and I blushed at his sincerity. I leaned in for one more kiss and shut the door for him, sealing the barrier between us for the next week. Kai held up his pinky and thumb fingers up to his ear and mouth to signify he would call me once he reached his destination. I pressed my hands against the window and smiled lightly.
"Love you,"
"Love you too," I heard him reply through the window as he pressed one of his hands opposite of mine on the window.
The car slowly backed out of the driveway and it sluggishly made its way down the road, going at a much slower pace. I continued to stand at the end of the driveway until Kai disappeared from my sight--much like after Akatsuki left. A weight had been pressed on my chest and I sighed deeply, reminding myself that a week was shorter than how it would really feel. The cold started getting to me and I hurried into the house, locking both locks on the front and back doors and I sat cross-legged on the center of the bed, waiting.
