• My heart beat became so loud I could hear the thumping of it fill my ears. A long arm pulled out to me in the dark, gripping my own arm; pulling me into a small source of light.
" Listen, kid, do you want it or not?"
    "W-want what?" I said quickly.
"Don't pull that crap with me" He said, holding out a tiny bag.
At first I thought he was offering some kind of candy, but as I looked closer, the smell grew stronger. Drugs. He was asking if I wanted some drugs.
"I-I don't know..There's alot of grown-ups at this party, and I really don-"
All of a sudden I feel a huge thrust at my chest as I hear him run away. Something slips off my chest. I look down. Its the tiny bag. I pick it up, and look around for the guy. I rub my fingers over the rough surface. Tiny rolls of the plant have been packed tightly inside. I start walking out of the garage into the moonlight. The street surrounded by tall lights illuminating the tan sidewalks. Stuffing the bag in my jean pocket, I began running away. Pretty soon I don't hear the loud booming music of the party. Instead, I hear loud crickets humming in the grass. The whole neighborhood is silent. I check my phone for any missed messages. Theres one. It's from Sam. I tuck my cellphone back into my pocket and run again. By the time I get home, I'm already in bed. It's 5 a.m. My chest moves up and down as I hyperventilate. My legs ache and I grit my teeth in pain. I roll over on my side, kicking my sneakers off and try to sleep. I close my eyes tightly. That doesn't work. I kick off my blanket. That still doesn't work. All night I spend hours trying to sleep. At 8 a.m my mom walks in.
"Jonah, honey, are you okay?" She places her hand on my forehead.
"Oh my! It seems you have a fever, baby."
I close my eyes and roll over on my back.
"Mom.. please can I go see Sam today?" I whisper.
"Jonah? what? No. You need all the rest you can get today." She pulls the blanket up to my chin, then walks over to my pile of laundry in the corner of my room.
On top of all the mess, theres a clean pair of nightwear. She places them on my bed, and runs her fingers through my hair.
    "Thank you..."
    "Your welcome honey. Anytime."
She hugs me, and I feel something come out of my pocket. I silently lift the blanket and look. Its the bag. I quickly pull the blanket back up and stare at her wondering if she noticed.
