• My heart felt as though it skipped a beat. My rifle gripped tight in my hands, the water hit my face.....it was cold but felt good. I looked ahead to see my commanding officer he had a face of determination and fearlessness. My body began to sweat, i had a twisted look on my face, I wanted to jump from the boat into the sea but the beach was only about 500 yards away. We were within firing range, the .50 cal bullets whizzed past my head, the boat next to us sank. I heard a sudden scream across from me. One of our snipers was shot in the eye, blood soaked the boats bottom, the scream was quick then he fell overboard.....dead and lifeless...he couldn't of been older than 20. I dug into my military jacket..the picture of my wife and two daughters....it was all that kept me going. The boat hit the beach edge. i jumped from the boat..the cold water sunk into my boots. I ran up the beach for the nearest fox hole. I laid in cover, .50 cal shots buzzing past my helmet. My commanding officer ran up next to me "Private are you ok?" he asked me
"im fine sir" i looked back at the boat and the beach none of our squadron on the boat where behind us "where is everyone else from our boat Captain?" He stared at me....then i saw the fear in his eyes...
"there all dead..." he said coldly.
I looked onward..the first to fight...i ran from the fox hole...i felt a sharp sting in my hip..then my leg...my body felt heavy..i droppd my rifle..blood ran from my body on to the sand...i pulled out the picture of my wife and daughters....then it all became black...
