• Chapter 19:

    That night in Gabriel’s house...

“Holy Cheese Crackers!!! I’m never going to Alaska!!!” Luna said, trying to cover her eyes from the horror movie.

Felicity was over at the corner of the living room in fetal position, muttering incoherently in fear.

“Felicity, didn’t we already see this movie in the theaters?” I said, eating popcorn as I watched the movie on the couch with Gabriel at my left and Luna at my right.

Jason, Jacob, Felicity, Charlotte and I went to see this movie in the theater months ago on a rainy day. It was the premiere of the new movie, The Fourth Kind, a new alien horror movie. Let’s just say I couldn’t sleep for days after watching it. It was terrifying. There was a point when I couldn’t keep looking at the screen and I covered my face in Jason’s shoulder while both he and Jacob were cowering in fear with me. Felicity was in a fetal position like she is now and Charlotte was unfazed by it. Sure, I got scared. Hey, if we magical creatures exist, aliens must exist too!

“Yes, we did. Eleanor, you slept for weeks with your zombies around your room, thinking aliens were going to kidnap you. You were terrified!” Felicity retorted, hiding behind the couch.

“We’re magical creatures, aliens will be interested in experimenting on us sooner or later~!” I said, still freaked out.

“I’m never stepping foot in Nome, Alaska.” Gabriel said as the movie kept going.

“God, how can you humans watch these things? They’re so fake~!” Raziel said as he came in.

“Shut up!” We yelled at him, throwing popcorn at him as we wanted to keep watching the movie.

“Oww, fine. And you guys wonder why I like brownies. It would never hurt me, unlike popcorn...” He muttered, eating a bag of brownies.

“Raziel... where did you find my brownie stash?” I asked, glaring at him.

“Uh... Itrashedyourroomlookingforit!” He said quickly, hoping that I wouldn’t understand.

“WHAT?!?!” Unfortunately for him, I understood every word.

“Wow, that movie is scarier than me...” Scarlet said, walking out of the shadows of the living room.
“Scarlet, go away. We’re watching a movie here...” Gabriel said, coldly.

“I’m here to talk to Eleanor; it’s none of your concern.” She replied.

“Fine...” I said, getting up from the couch and going into the kitchen to talk to the vampire.

“Listen, Eleanor. There is something that you need to know. You’re growing up so you should know the truth.” She started.

“Ok, you’re sounding like my mom when she told me the truth about my dead pet hamster...” I said, worried.

“It’s nothing like that, but probably worse.”

    “Gee, that’s reassuring.”

“Eleanor, there is a reason I’m trying to kill you. It’s not because you’re a threat to me, but to all living things. You see, you will fall victim of the Mystic Prophecy...” She explained.

    “Huh? I don’t understand.”

“You will learn in time. But first, you must know why I am trying to kill you. Look at this.” Scarlet took out a small, tattered gray photo and gave it to me.

I took it and looked over it. There were 4 people in the picture. It was a family photo, taken right outside of their house. There was a mother; sweet-looking, pretty and wise. There was a father; strong and tall. In front of them were their two daughters. The oldest of the sisters has short brown hair and a fine featured face, like Scarlet’s. The youngest looked very similar. Her hair was brown and long with the sweetest face a young girl could have. Then, it hit me.

“Scarlet... that girl... she looks like me...” I stuttered.

Scarlet nodded, “Yup, that’s my younger sister...”

“WHAT?!?!” Gabriel, Felicity and Luna yelled out loud from under the kitchen table, listening into our conversation.

My jaw lowered to the floor in disbelief.

“It’s true, just ask Raziel.” She said.

I snapped out of it and glared at Raziel, “How come you never told me?”

“Uh... it never came to mind?” Raziel said nervously, giving a cheap excuse.

I summoned a handful of zombies by dripping a small drop of blood, ordering them to chase Raziel.

    “Nooo~!!!” Rariel said, running away.

“Scarlet, what’s the meaning of this?” I asked, giving her back the picture.

“The day my dear sister gave birth a child, she asked me to watch over her family, since she knew that I would live on forever. I’ve been keeping my promise as her family kept changing through time and now, the promise continues with protecting you...” Scarlet explained.

“W-what? Eleanor is your descendant?” Luna asked.

“Of course, you can’t see the family resemblance?” Scarlet asked, pinching my cheek since she knows I hate that.

“Oww..” I said as she let go, “Then, why are you trying to kill me?”

“Due to my promise, I have to make sure that you are not hurt. Due to this prophecy, you will suffer. You will go through hell and back to survive. I don’t want you to go through all that pain, suffering and agony. I’ve been trying to take you out of your misery before chaos breaks loose. However, I’ve decided to give up since you’ve grown strong enough to survive and overcome the prophecy...” She said.

“She’s right, Eleanor! There zombies are much faster and stronger!” Raziel said as he ran inside, barricading the door as the zombies tried to bring down the door.

“Scarlet, tell me more about this prophecy..”

“Well, I was there when the prophecy was created, so was Raziel. The prophecy includes three special magical creatures; you are one of them. When the time comes, you’ll see who they are and the horror that may happen. But I can tell you that your powers will be a threat to the world...”

    “My necromancy?” I asked.

“No, something much more powerful, an untapped power inside of you that is beyond your reach... You will learn soon. For now, take this.” She spoke as she took my hand and placed a necklace in it.

I looked at the silver chain necklace with a miniature scythe made of bones hanging from it.

“It belongs to the long line of necromancers in your family. You may have noticed that your mother and grandmother have these around their necks. I’ve given it to them also. The scythe will grow in the hands of your necromancy line and it has incredible powers.” Scarlet explained.

“Wait, how did our family become necromancers? You’re not a necromancer...” I asked, confused.

“It was my sister; she was the first in the line to gain the power to control the spirits of the dead... I must go know, I’ll see you later and here, keep the photo...” She said, giving me the picture before disappearing in a flock of black feathers.

“Guys, let’s get some rest. Eleanor must be tired. It’s 2 am and the movie just ended...” Gabriel said, getting out from under the table.

“Nah, I’ll be fine. I have another movie I want to see.” I smiled, wanting to keep everything I learned out of my mind.

“Uh, which one?” Felicity said, fearful.

    “Saw 5, of course!!!”

“NO!!!!!!!!” Luna and Felicity yelled, running back under the table.
