• Jared was standing, surrounded by a never ending sea of darkness. It felt thick and sticky as it clung to his skin and let go, going past him and mixing with the rest of the darkness. He started walking, going right, going left, going straight, but still he felt himself trapped inside and no light was shining to show him the way out. Suddenly, he saw a great light coming towards him. It swerved and swayed and moved like a small animal. He kept looking and soon realized that it was a ball fire. It moved around and soon it surrounded him. It didn’t feel hot, just warm. It was soft and gentle warmth that reminded him of his mothers embrace. Suddenly it jumped in the air and swallowed him whole.
Jared woke up. He sat up and looked around him. The moon was shining down on the pile of books. He looked over at his sister and saw her sleeping and holding tight to her little stuffed bear. He smiled as he heard sudden loud noises of snores and soon laid back down. He soon noticed that he had been sweating greatly, because his skin felt sticky. He stood up and walked around the library. He looked through the books and found one that looked a little interesting. He sat back down where the moons beams of light were soaking and started to try and make out the words. It wasn’t very easy and he soon found himself looking for someway to make a small fire.
“I wish I had some fire right now?” Jared whispered to himself. He looked around once more and suddenly, from the corner of his eye, saw a small bit of light. He quickly looked at where the light was coming from and saw a small ball of flame, hovering in front of him, like it was hanging on an invisible string. It didn’t move around like it did in his dream, but stayed in place. He moved back so as not to get hurt when it fell, but it just moved back as well. He soon stood up and the ball of flame equaled itself with his eye level. He started to walk around the room and still the ball of flame stayed with him. Jared sat back down, the ball of flame stayed in front of him. Jared reached out and touched it. It didn’t feel hot nor cold, just warm. He ran his hand through it and soon found that the flame was stuck to his hand. He tried to shake it off, but found that it grew larger. He soon closed his hand into a fist and the flame disappeared, he opened his hand and the flame didn’t reappear. Jared sighed with relief. Soon after, his hand felt cold and longed to feel the soothing warmth. The rest of the night he tried to gain back the flame. It wasn’t until morning that he found that if he snapped his fingers his pointing finger could finally hold the flame.
Alice awoke and took in a sharp breath of air. It smelled funny, like fire. She opened her eyes and turned around towards her brother. She could see him fiddling with is hands and a small light dancing upon both of them.
“Jared your hands are on fire!” yelled Alice as she stood up and ran to her brother.
“It’s alright Alice.” said Jared as he held his hands away from the book that she was going to smash his hands with. “It doesn’t hurt.”
“It doesn’t?” asked Alice as she looked at them with wonder. “How are you doing that?”
    “I have no clue.”
“Do you suppose that you might have been the one who set that man’s hands on fire?” asked Alice, feeling sad at the thought.
Jared smile sagged down and he felt a great lump in his stomach. “I don’t know.” finally said Jared.
“Hey, maybe we should get going.” said Alice as she stood up and walked towards there things.
“Go where? There is no place for us.”
“There might not be a place for us, but we need to leave. We can’t stay here forever, right brother?”
“Ya, your right.” said Jared as he stood up from the pile of books. “I guess we better start heading off.”
They both grabbed the few things that they had and walked farther away from the old library. They walked farther and farther away, not stopping for anything, and they said not a word. They passed through a small forest and soon came out to a small farming area. There were at least a few acres of just farms. They passed through it. No one stopped to ask them where they were going, no one even noticed them. They still walked on and it wasn’t until Alice said something that they even stopped.
“Jared we need to stop for awhile.” she said as she sat by the side of the road, on a small patch of clover.
“Why, we need to keep going.” said Jared as he started to walk on.
“Jared, I’m tired and I’m hungry. We need to stop and have a bight to eat.”
“Fine,” said Jared as he sat his small red bundle on the ground. “I’ll go and ask one of the farmers if they could spare some food.” Jared walked off and left Alice by herself. She sat there and soon decided to read the wizards diary for amusement. She opened it up and saw that the pages were blank. Nothing was written on them, not even a drawing. As she looked at the book she soon noticed words appearing and making a sentence.
“Go to the west and find your mind, Find the one who hides in the trees of thieves.” Alice read. She felt confused and closed the book. She waited a lot longer then she would have wanted, but he came back. He walked over to her and dropped a small cloth pouch of coins. Alice looked at them and then at her brother.
“Where did you get these?” she asked as she hung it from her two fingers, like it was a bottle of poison.
“I earned them, I did some fire tricks and they gave me money. Oh, and I also bought two shoulder bags for each of us. Here this one’s yours.” said Jared as he handed Alice a deep brown-red leather bag.
“Thank you brother, but do you think it’s safe for you to do that?”
“Ya, as long as I don’t do anything like that in large cities. I think we’ll be fine.” said Jared as he pulled out some bread, cheese, and a glass bottle of water.
Alice looked inside of hers and found enough food for the next few days and a glass bottle of water filled to the brim and a stopped stuck in it.
“There’s also a small knife in there for you.”
“Thank you brother.” said Alice as she bit into some of her bread and cheese. She quickly stuck the book inside the bag and her teddy bear she shoved inside her dress pocket.
“Here Jared, here’s your things.” said Alice as she carefully placed the small bundle in front of him.
He quickly picked it up and tucked it inside his bag.
“Alright, eat up and then we’ll rest for the time being. Tomorrow there’s going to be a lot more walking.”
