tab Overhead lights shone hard on the display. It seared into their eyes. “Uhg, how long until we’re sold?” said Violeta, the purple pumps. Ruby scoffed.
tab “We’re? What makes you think it’ll be all of us?”
tab “You, me, we, whatever, I just can’t take it anymore.”
tab A pair of flip flops passed beside them. “Geez, and THAT was able to find someone?” said Ruby. “Quit yer whining,” grunted Roy, the brown cowboy shoes, below her. “You could try lowerin’ ya price to what ya really worth.”
tab “What? Excuse me, but if I did that I wouldn’t get sold. Can’t buy priceless.”
tab “Heh, more like useless” he said.
tab “Oh be quiet you ugly leather wrap.”
tab “Just because yer one of them fancy shoes, don’t think yer better’n everyone!”
tab Ruby looked indignant
tab “Ok guys, stop arguing!” Violeta squeaked.
tab She motioned towards an approaching customer. The man was happy to see today’s more varied selection. The day before, all of the nicer shoes were sold, leaving behind large, ugly looking sandals. He loomed over the display, his body brewing with anticipation. For nearly a half hour he looked over each shoe, sampling their various textures and smells. His mind raced with possibilities. Finally, his hands lingered on the base of a red stiletto. “Oh dear Lord” Ruby thought. The other shoes looked on in horror. “Mmm…” he muttered as he tenderly caressed the heel. Just as he was about to pick her up, the man got distracted by what looked like a surprise acquaintance. “Hey John,” said the woman. After a few minutes of small talk, they both walked away from the display, much to Ruby’s relief. “Heh, bet that was karma gettin’ back at ya” said Roy. “Don’t even joke about that Roy!” Violeta said. He shrugged. “Well, she is a b--” “Go to hell!” Ruby shouted.
