BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! my alarm clock screamed at me. My eyes fluttered open. I moaned and rolled over, smacking it hard with my hand.
"It's time to get up!" my mom sang while rushing past my room. I moaned again and shoved my face into my pillow.
"Get up!" my mom urged pulling the blankets off of me, revealing that I had slept in a tank top and underwear.
"Ah! And get some clothes on. No one wants to see your butt." she joked, shielding her eyes.
"Hey, you used to wash that butt." I grinned sitting up. My head began to rush and I put two fingers on each of my temples. I waited for it to pass and then I stood up, stretched, and flopped back down on the bed.
"Nooooo. Get. Up." my mom insisted. She grabbed my ankles and began to pull me off the bed. I gripped the sheets and tried to stay off the floor. My hands slipped and I landed on the floor with a loud thud.
"Fine, I'll get up. You don't have to be all pushy." I mumbled getting off the floor. I walked behind my mom and guided her to the door, and pushed her out, shutting the door behind her. I sighed and groggily made my way over to my dresser. I pulled open the second drawer on the left and yanked out a shirt. It was a white shirt with purple, blue, black, pink, and green splatters all over it. I pulled it on over my black tank top and fished through my other drawers for a pair of jeans. I found a pair of flare jeans and a pair of green and pink socks. I slipped both of them on and left my room, grabbing my phone and shoving it in my pocket, towards the kitchen.
"Mom, have you seen my-" I began.
"They're in the living room." she called from her room. I walked in the living room, and sure enough, my black converse were laying near the sofa. I picked them up and walked into the kitchen. As soon as I walked in waffles popped out of the toaster. I shrugged and took them out. I began nibbling on one as I sat on the kitchen table putting on my shoes.
"Get off the table." my mom scolded as she walked into the kitchen. She looked towards the toaster.
"Where are my waffles?" she asked turning to me. I looked at her innocently with one of the waffles hanging out of my mouth. She playfully scolded as she pulled more waffles out of the freezer and put them in the toaster.
"You know, I thought we were the type of family where I could make frozen waffles without fear." she teased, making a cup of coffee. I grinned and got off the table walking to my bathroom, with my waffles. I looked in the mirror and scrunched up my face at the reflection. I had bed head and my eyeliner and mascara was smeared. I placed my waffle and half eaten waffle on the counter. I took a wash cloth and washed of my face and redid my make up. I put my hair up in a messy bun and let my bangs partially fall over my right eye. I picked up my waffles and went in my room. I slung my bag over my shoulder and went back into the kitchen. I grabbed my keys and was about to walk out the door before I heard someone knock. I opened the door and Ellie was standing in front of me with a very serious expression.
"We need to talk." she said and pulled me out of the house. She dragged me to her car and shoved me in the passenger seat. When she got in the driver's side she turned to me.
"What?" I asked.
"Don't play stupid with me. Damien told me you still liked Ryan." she said in an upset tone.
"Did Damien also tell you that he knew that Ryan was going to break up with me for someone else, or did he keep that a secret from you, too?" I asked harshly.
"Yes, he did. He was very upset when he came to see me. It looked like his heart shattered into a million pieces and those pieces shattered and then those pieces shattered, so by then all he had was a bunch of heart dust. No heart, just dust." she replied starting the car. I raised my eyebrows at her usage of words.
"Huh, he didn't look that way when we were arguing." I mumbled. Well, at some parts he did but at others he looked like a stubborn jackass.
"What? Oh, waffles!" she exclaimed taking the one I hadn't bitten off of from me. She took a big bite and then made a face.
"They're cold." she said with her mouth full of waffle.
"Hey. Yoo-hoo, ADD child. What did you and Damien talk about? Like, what did he say?" I asked waving a hand in her face. She started up the car and headed down the street.
"He said he wasn't sure he could deal with much more heartbreak. He's been waiting for you all his life, sure he knew you were going to get hurt and didn't warn you, but you need to let it go." she insisted.
"Then, he needs to let it go that I might actually still like Ryan." I reasoned. She sighed.
"Why do you still like Ryan?" she asked.
"I don't."
"But you said you did. Even Damien said you did."
"I thought I did, but for some reason, that feeling has left me."
"Well, how do you feel now?"
"I feel like I let my whole life go last night. Like my whole world ended when I let Damien walk through my door. When I woke up this morning there was this hole that I ignored but with each passing minute, it grew bigger until it swallowed my heart whole. I feel like I need to apologize to Damien."
"For what?"
"For lying to him. Not only about Ryan but because last night I told him that my life doesn't revolve around him when in reality, it does. I shouldn't have ever let him leave the way he did." I said. Not a single word was a lie.
