• EXT. IN FRONT OF SCHOOL. EARLY MORNING.

The sunrise begins to set in a little. There are some
zombies scattered out, walking aimlessly around the school.
Some of their hisses and growls can be heard. Some zombies
from within the trees come onto the school grounds, as if
the infection was spreading each minute.

    INT. KITCHEN.

A faucet turns on. Someone puts a cup under the running
water, filling it to the top.

    INT. HALLWAY.

Trevor is carrying a cup of water.

    INT. LIBRARY.

The library door opens and Trevor walks in. Sarah is sitting
on small sofa near a bookshelf, staring at the floor.
Trevor approaches her and hands her the drink.

    SARAH
    Thankyou.

    TREVOR
    Yep.

    She takes a tiny sip.

    TREVOR (CNT’D)
So am I gonna have to ask you
    again?

    Pause.

    SARAH
    (sighs)
What do you want me to say?

    TREVOR
    Anything is better than nothing.

    SARAH
For starters, I don’t really have
to answer you. I have no comment on
    what happened on that roof.

    TREVOR
Ok, fair enough, you don’t have to
answer me at all. We barley know
each other. But maybe you owe your
own flesh and blood a few words. I
know they would be a lot happier
    than I would.

    (Beat)

    SARAH
I know what you’re trying to do. To
    be one hundred percent honest,
things what I did isn’t going to
change. It doesn’t matter if I say
    anything to anybody or not.

    TREVOR
    Yeah it could.

    SARAH
    How?

    TREVOR
If you’re open about your feelings
they can help you from doing
something like that again. In the
situation we’re in, we need each
other’s support. It’ll be easier to
    get by.

    Pause.

    TREVOR
Do you want me to tell them? Or
    even Jaxon?

    SARAH
    No!

    TREVOR
    What?

    SARAH
If you tell Jaxon, he’ll tell my
    family for sure.

    TREVOR
So you still don’t want anyone to
    know?

    SARAH
Please. Not Jaxon, not Damon, not
even my cousins. It’s better this
    way.

    TREVOR
    Better for who? You?

    SARAH
It’s not better for anyone. It’ll
keep my family a little bit more
    sane.

    (Beat)

    TREVOR
    Alright...guess we can just leave
    it at that.

    SARAH
    Thanks...

He gets up and starts to walk away. He stops, and turns
    around to her.

    TREVOR
    Just one more thing...Before you
    decide to sacrifice yourself to
those things out there, just ask
yourself...do you want to end up
    like them?

    (Beat)

    TREVOR (CNT’D)
Because that’s what I had to do...

Sarah quickly looks up at him, but his back is already
turned and he leaves the library. Sarah stares back at the
floor, with a lot on her mind.

    INT. HALLWAYS.

Trevor is walking through the main lobby, and into the
hallway. He stops and takes out a cigarette. He takes a puff
and leans back against the wall. He suddenly hears very loud
banging coming from the stairwell next to him.

He puts the cigarette out and puts his gun out, entering the
    stairwell door.

    INT. STAIRWELL.

He opens the stairwell. The banging continues, coming from
the second floor. He cautiously walks up the stairs, his gun
still pointed in front of him. As he walks up, he hears
    zombie screeches.

He goes to the second floor and sees the door being banged
on from the other side. The chains suddenly break.

    TREVOR
    s**t!

He runs to the door and tries keeping it shut, as zombies
are pushing back on the other side. Another big bang pushes
him back a little, making him drop his gun. The doors
suddenly break off from the doorway. He tries pushing it
back, as zombies are growling at him, trying to claw at him.

Trevor reaches back for his pocket knife and takes it out,
but the zombies push him down. He falls on the steps,
twisting and breaking his ankle. He screams from the pain.
The door is now on top of him, as the zombies are still on
top of the door. The growl and screech at him.

    TREVOR
    Come on!!!

He reaches around one side of the door and stabs one zombie
in the eye. Some of the eye liquid splatters on his face.
The zombie dies. He tries reaching over the other side of
the door, but he can’t reach the zombie.

The zombies continue to screech at him. Trevor takes a huge
breath, and begins to inch the door up, lifting the two
zombies up as well. He yells, using all of his strength,
trying to get the door off him. It seems to be working. The
door continues to inch off from him.

He then flips the door over to the side, setting himself
free. He uses the rail and pulls himself up. One zombie
rises up and starts to him, cornering him, chomping it’s
teeth at him. Trevor stabs the zombie in the head, killing
it. He then pushes it down.

He limps up the stairs, as the other zombie growls,
staggering towards him. He grabs the zombie and slams it
down to the ground. He then grabs its head, and break it’s
neck to the side, killing it.

Trevor leans against the wall, breathing rapidly, wiping
    blood off from his face.

    TREVOR
    Jesus...

The snapped necked zombie’s eyes open and it begins to clomp
its teeth together, not able to move from the neck down.
Trevor takes out his knife and stabs it three times in the
    head.

    OPENING CREDITS::

    INT. NURSES’ OFFICE. DAY.

Emily is wrapping a bandage around Trevor’s ankle, who is
laying on the bed. Olivia is standing next to him.

    OLIVIA
So they broke through the doors?
    Just like that?

    TREVOR
They didn’t just break through the
doors, they broke through the god
damn chains. It was tied up and
everything. It’s like we can’t keep
them out no matter what we do.

    OLIVIA
We’re just happy you didn’t get
killed...seems like it was too much
    of a close call.

    TREVOR
My broken ankle shows how much of a
    close call that was.

    (Beat)

    OLIVIA
I have to talk to Jaxon.

    TREVOR
    About what?

    OLIVIA
You were supposed to come on the
run with us. We’d be one man down.

    TREVOR
    Don’t worry, I’ll be fine--

    EMILY
    You’re kidding me, right?

    OLIVIA
Trevor we know you’re as tough as
metal, but let’s be real. You can’t
    come along.

    TREVOR
Well who was supposed to come with
    us?

    OLIVIA
    Me, Jaxon, Damon, Phoenix and
    Michael.

    EMILY
Yeah, sounds like you guys could
    use an extra person..

    Emily and Olivia exchange looks.

    OLIVIA
    Don’t even think about it.

    EMILY
I can handle my self just fine out
there. If I’m in a group it’ll be
    no problem.

    OLIVIA
    That’s not the point. I don’t want
your life at risk. Not only that, I
don’t even think Jaxon would let
you go either after what happened
    at the grocery store.

    EMILY
Well if not me nor Trevor, who do
you think will volunteer to go?

    OLIVIA
    I don’t know. That’s what I wanted
    to talk to Jaxon about.

Emily cuts the bandage off and finishes wrapping it around
    Trevor’s ankle.

    EMILY
Alright. But you’d be silly not to
bring me if no one else steps up.

    OLIVIA
Yeah, yeah. I’d rather feel a bit
silly than having you out there.

She playfully pokes Emily and walks out of the nurses’
    office.

INT. BACK ROOM OF NURSES’ OFFICE.

Sarah is curled up in the corner of the wall. She’s staring
off, as if she’s still in deep thought.

INT. COMMONS. IN FRONT OF MAIN OFFICE.

As Olivia is walking toward the main office, she sees Jaxon
walking toward the office as well, coming from the lobby.

    OLIVIA
    Hey. You have a minute?

    JAXON
    Can it wait?

    OLIVIA
Well-not really. It has to do with
    our run today.

    JAXON
That can wait. There’s something we
need to take care of first.

    OLIVIA
    What is it...?

    INT. MAIN OFFICE.

Jaxon, Olivia, Damon and Michael are sitting at the table.

    JAXON
As all of you know, there’s still
infected locked on the other side
of the school. We need to take care
of them now before they hurt anyone
    else. It nearly killed Trevor.

    DAMON
    Is he okay?

    JAXON
He broke his ankle, but he’ll
    survive. He’s a strong man.

    DAMON
    Wow..

    MICHAEL
Why can’t we just re lock the
doors? We’ll just make the chains
    tied up tighter.

    JAXON
That’s not the point. If we’re all
gone on the run, and the infected
    break in...who’s going to protect
    everyone? Can’t expect Trevor to.
We need to keep everyone safe.

    DAMON
Agreed. I won’t leave my kids here
until I know those infected freaks
    won’t hurt them.

    OLIVIA
It’s a good idea and all but, how
do you propose we do this? We’re
running low on ammo and we need
    what’s left for our run.

    JAXON
    Exactly...that’s why we’re gonna
    have to do this...hand on.

    Pause.

    MICHAEL
    Don’t you think that’s a
    little...too risky?

    JAXON
For sure. But we’re left with no
other option. Either we have them
on the run with us, or make sure
they’re safe and kept put here. And
I think we all know what the answer
    to that is...

    Pause. They all nod.

    JAXON (CNT’D)
    Alright...we’ll get prepared, then
I’ll find you guys when it’s time.

    OLIVIA
Speaking of our run...we all know
that Trevor can’t tag along to get
those vehicles. I think we should
    consider a replacement for him.

    MICHAEL
    Like who?

    OLIVIA
Emily offered to go, but I would
feel alot more comfortable if she
was here, taking care of Trevor and
    Sarah.

    JAXON
Our options are very limited. Who
else do we have to choose from?

    OLIVIA
    Phoenix is still coming, right?

    DAMON
    Yeah, he is.

    MICHAEL
    Would you feel comfortable asking
    Xavier, maybe?

    DAMON
No way. Having just one of my sons
out there is more than enough for
    me.

    JAXON
That leaves Xavier and Kierra out
    of the equation.

    (Beat)

    DAMON
Maybe I can ask my son’s friend,
Craig. He’s the only one left who I
    can think of.

    OLIVIA
Do you really think he’ll say yes?

    JAXON
    Why wouldn’t he?

    OLIVIA
After Juno died, he’s been very
distant. As if he wants nothing to
do with any of us. I hope he still
    isn’t mad.

    DAMON
    It’s worth asking. We’ve got
    nothing to lose.

    Pause.

    OLIVIA
    Alright.

    JAXON
That settles it. Until we come
across that bridge, are we ready to
    complete task number one?

    OLIVIA
Out of one hundred, I’m assuming?

    JAXON
    You’re probably assuming correct.

They all get up, ready to leave.
