• It was near midnight in the country of Norland. Most of its citizens were sleeping or working quietly, except for one village hidden from the public. The village was hidden by a dense forest near the border of the country. Outsiders did not know of the village, nor did the villagers know about the world outside of their homes. Unlike the rest of the country, life is simple in the village; there is no electricity or running water. The people built their own homes and grow their own food. They support each other during the bad times and celebrate together during the good times.
The village is called Doracre. Its villagers were having their blue moon festival. In the village centre upbeat, polyphonic music, joyful screams and cries, and the smell of fairy delicacies, that would make anyone’s mouth water, filled the air. Children played games and magic tricks on each other, while mothers and fathers taught their young children how to fly and use magic. Elders were reminiscing with each other about their memories. Most guards, surrounding the village, were drunkenly singing the songs that their ancestors’ sang. It seemed that almost everyone was out celebrating.
One family decided to stay home during the festival. A mother was holding her three month old daughter, trying to rock her to sleep. She snuggled the baby and softly sang her a song. The father entered the one room cottage with a basket filled with food, “Is Middlemist sleeping?” He set the basket down and grabbed two piece of bread. He offered one to his wife, while eating his piece. “The villagers are so kind,” The wife took a bite of her bread. “I wonder how long until they stop giving us stuff.” He added. The baby fell asleep and the mother put her in her cot. She lay in bed with her husband, who held her as she fell asleep.
About an hour later a scream echoed out outside, followed by multiple screams, then the howls of wolves. The husband jumped out of the bed to wake up his wife. She grabbed the baby, “Promise me you’ll be safe.” She said as he grabbed his spear. “I’m more worried about you two,” he rubbed his hand against her face then kissed her and the baby. “I love you.” He ran out of the cottage to help out.
The mother hid inside the wardrobe and sat the second he left. The baby was awake by now, “Go back to sleep Middlemist,” she tried to silence the baby by gently rocking her.. A few seconds later a wolf broke down the front door. It started to sniff around the room. She held her breath and held her baby closer as the wolf neared them. When the wolf was a metre away the baby cried. The wolf torn the door of the wardrobe down to attack the mother. He left her bloody, before she could get back up, he picked up the baby with his mouth and ran off with her.
Though she was bloody, the mother got back up the chase the wolf down. She flew as fast as she could to catch up with the wolf. She grabbed the wolf by his fur and brought him down. When he fell, she picked up her baby and ran. She only got 2 metres from the wolf until he got back up to attack. He bit and clawed at her and she fought to stay conscious. Within two minutes she lost the fight and was left lying in the mud. The baby, now lying in the dirt, was bloody, hurt, and screaming her head off. The wolf quickly picked her up and ran off to avoid the fairies from getting to him.
The wolf travelled to a mansion on a steep hill before the sun rose. At the door of the mansion he laid the baby down, so that he could shape shift. The wolf was now a tall man with dark brown hair and eyes to match after changing; he picked up the baby and rang the doorbell. A small, old butler opened the door. “Tell Robert I got the thing he needed.” Right then a tall, pale man, named Robert, showed up at the door, which startled the old man, “Come right in,” He let the wolf-man in.
“Sorry for taking longer than expected, its mother tried to fight.” The wolf man followed Robert down the hall.
“As long as it’s alive, did you get others just in case this one does not work?” Robert walked down stairs. “This thing smells like s**t.” He scrunched up his nose due to the smell.
“Sorry sir, I don’t know how to change a diaper.”
Unknown to the two men a small woman is following them. She’s confused about what the two men were talking about and wondering about the baby they had. She followed them into the basement and hid in the shadows. She saw the wolf man set the baby on a metal table.
Robert took a knife from his coat pocket. “Do you know how to do this?” The wolf man asked.
“I got instructions from the commander himself.” Robert raises the knife. The woman’s eyes widen and were about the say something until wolf-man spoke up.
“Will it kill the baby? I already feel bad for her mother?” The wolf-man nervously twiddled his fingers.
Robert laid the knife down and sighed, “Probably, if you can’t handle it, then go upstairs.” The wolf-man turned around, not wanting the see a child being killed. Robert once again raised the knife.
The woman got up, “STOP!” she screamed as she ran towards him.
