Odd Dream – Story Idea
4:44 PM - Last night I had a dream that started out normal enough. I was a normal boy, living a normal life with friends. Until I found myself one day in a sewer, or some underground tunnel. Traveling down into the depths (something I don't recommend anyone actually doing in real life), I discovered a world unknown to the outside. I remember the green or light bluish tint of the place, mechanical, old yet new. It seemed so unnatural for a world like this to exist, but I was in some underground city that didn't seem to be without technology. Lights here and there, large tv screens on buildings, it was incredible.
This was not my world however. I soon discovered this city was inhabited by mutants and monsters. Oh, don't confuse this with some sortof horror-like nightmare, the monsters and mutants were intelligent beings just like any of us. They were not “wild”, and from their buildings they weren't technologically challenged.
I eventually found myself in a classroom for these monsters, which was odd since I was a human. I remember finding my friend there, only to see him change into some fire elemental crossbreed. I say fire elemental because he seemed to be hot-headed throughout my dream and dealt a lot with fire attacks/movements, as well as having a red pigment to his skin.
It was like people I knew were monsters or mutants in disguise, but perhaps I only knew of my friend in there. Yet, I felt fine being amongst these oddities, and they didn't seem to see me as lunch so it all worked out I guess. I remember a few of the monsters/mutants that were in there.
There was this one guy who was short, and had purple fur all over his body. His arms were long, but ended in stubs. He also had a long, striped tail. I forget exactly what his abilities were, but I tended to see him rotating 360, and I believe it created “time vortexes”. I also remember a Lamia was there, or a half woman/half snake monster (she has appeared in several games, so you might be familiar with this type of monster. Think Medusa without the snake hair).
I don't quite remember what caused it, but something about the Lamia that kind of quieted the class. Argh what was it? Maybe I found her attractive (well, I did), or maybe I commented on her being a girl – or SOMETHING! Argh I dunno. What I remember though was after that the class went quiet, one of the teachers told me that the roles were reversed down here. I dunno, they knew I was from the human world or something? Anyways, males were considered women down here, even though they had male parts, and vice versa for females. Female mutants/monsters tended to be butcher than male mutants/monsters, who tended to go more feminine... I dunno it was weird, but I guess this played a big role in the dream, since I was a guy – who now had to think of myself as a girl yet didn't want to act girlish and went against the grain (so I guess I would be considered a tomboy?)
It was really interesting being in that class. Actually, the city in its entirety was interesting, since I didn't just stick to that class. It was like being in a video game story or something. So I'm the different one, going against the grain. Eventually I begin to manifest powers of mutants/monsters, and I believe I began to change form. I believe this came from some notion of humans having the ability to be a villain or a hero, however heroes were taught elsewhere, probably heaven, and villains were taught here. So I became a villian I guess, yet I had heroic thoughts and morals many times. It was like being in elementary school, but for monsters/mutants, and we weren't 4 or 5 years old but instead late teens, early twenties. Anyways, the powers I manifested were nothing big, just normal monster/mutant basics. Increased strength, ability to jump much higher than a normal human could, limb growth/deformation... I remember being with my best friend, and him being able to do things a lot easier than I could. Like going into a secret way to class, he was able to easily go through an incredibly thin passageway that normal beings couldn't. I, however, put my hands on the walls and pushed them out, broadening the passageway so I wouldn't have to try to squeeze through a 3 inch crack (yea it narrowed that much).
Many of the teachings I learned were from watching videos in the classroom. Lots of how-to videos and whatnot made it look like the teachers were mostly there just to keep watch over the class. Also, the whole villians and heroes thing was sortof neutral in my class as even though we were evil, we weren't as evil as most of the higher up creatures. Speaking of creatures, there were so many different ones outside the class, but not all I knew of. Many seemed like a garbled bunch of parts (which probably meant they were mutants), like these tall camel-like creatures that had very thin legs and walked through the city's canals, or human-looking creatures that had limbs coming out of other limbs or growing in places they shouldn't. Some of the monsters I saw were hulking golems, eyeballs that floated around in the air, and lizardmen. I also want to take back partially what I said about the monsters being “civilized”. I mean, they still were monsters and mutants, and still did bad things or acted bad, but there WERE wild ones in the sewer tunnels of the city that you had to keep away from. These creatures seemed more like zombies though, than anything else.
It was all a very odd dream, but it could make for an interesting story if I ever come back to this for ideas. A world where mutants and monsters roam, where gender roles are swapped yet not. Abilities to gain, classes to be taught, a hidden world to explore. Heh, it was pretty cool.
