• PROLOGUE
James pointed the gun at my head and tears flowed down my cheeks.
    "James please don't."
I pleaded once again but all he whispered was I love you and then he looked past me at the doors. I tried to turn my head but he held it there.
"Please don't I need to see your face to keep sane about all of this."
He looked like he was going insane but I said nothing. I whimpered quietly and he looked directly into my eyes.
"Vanessa I love you please please just trust me."
At that moment I held still I knew we were here on a job and after all that we had been through it wouldn't make since for him to give up on me now. So I waited patiently.
    Then I heard foot steps.
    "He's here." James whispered.
I was confused because I couldn't see him come in. Soon the man started talking. I told myself to be still, stay nothing and believe everything without accepting it.
"So I see you've decided my offer was too great to pass up. Well that great kill her already will you."
The man said almost annoyed but somewhat pleased. I tensed slightly but looked at James and was reassured, I mean its not like I deserved him anyway so if I was to die it was how I repayed whoever that ran the world for giving him to me for this amount of time.
James's voice tore me out of my thoughts, "I don't trust you. This is my partner to kill her for nothing would really upset me and I don't think we want that."
"Of course you don't trust me," the man replied,"that's why we're here."
James rolled his eyes and shifted the gun.
"Tell me where the money is. No money. No revenge."
This got me thinking. Who would be searching for revenge? I kill for a living but I usually kill the whole family instead of just the object because it saves time and trouble later like this for instance.
I then heard the man sigh. He said, "Fine its upstairs in the room where I first hired you."
James looked down at me slowly and whisper, "Trust me." So low I could just barely hear him then he cocked the gun.
He looked at me quickly and I then noticed the wild light in his eyes, this made my love for him overwhelm and I almost stumbled. James then shifted the gun so acurately and only a touch that the man didn't notice, but I did. I started to hyperventilate and I pleaded with James again. But he just smiled darkly and pulled the trigger. The bullet connected with skin and the man fell over. I walked over to him and pulled out my knife and stabbed him with it.
"Not your smartest decision, but I'm sure that you'll learn from your mistakes... Well then again maybe not."
I laughed and then went over to James, "Ready to go get some emotionally draining but hard earned cash. Oh and another thing who was that guy."
"That was the brother of one of our old employers whom we killed for setting us up."
James smiled and took my hand but stopped and looked me in the eyes.
"You did believe me after the first bit right?"
"Of course. And I'm sorry I didn't from the beginning."
"Okay good. And just for the record. I love you Vanessa Craid."
I smiled and then stood on my toes to kiss his cheek and then continued towards the money.
