• I rode my bike down the street. I know exactly where I was going; to New York. "One ticket to New York," I told the lady behind the counter. She told me there was no more. Then, I saw a New York ticket lying on the ground. What luck, I thought. "New York airplane," I heard a loud voice said. I walked to the front of the room where a lady wearing the same outfit as the other, was checking passports and tickets. Passports! I patted my pocket to see if my passport was there. It was. Lucky again, I thought. I gave the lady my passport and ticket. Then I went up the airplane. Thirty minutes later it began to move. Eight hours later, it was a new day and at nine in the morning. I was served with delicious meals and playing on the mini TV screen in front of me. Airplanes are more fun than I thought. Finally, we were at New York. I rode my bike to the Emerald Museum. I asked a guy where it was first. Ten minutes later, I was there and the news reporter, Britney Berton was still reporting. There was a smashed, glass window in front of the museum where the diamond was! I looked for Darin, but couldn't see him. The thief must have got him too, I thought. Just then I realized I was standing on a mud puddle! It had rained last week. If Dad was here, he would have warned me. I then saw muddy footsteps leading somewhere. I followed it with my bike on my side. Twenty minutes later, I was at a strange house. I peeked inside the window and saw my dad's jacket! I opened the door since it wasn't locked. I heard a thumping sound. Could the thief be here? I thought. I followed the sound as it was getting closer and closer. Then it stopped. It stopped to a closet which can only open from the outside. I opened the door and saw... Dad! "Dad!" I yelled. "Halley!" Dad yelled back and gave me a big hug. "We have to go! The thief can be back any second!" I said and pushed my dad out the door, but he wouldn't move. "Dad! Let's go!" I screamed and pulled his hand, but he wouldn't still move. "Sorry, Halley, but I have to find out who was the thief," Dad said. "Didn't you see him when he kidnapped you?" I asked. "Not really," Dad answered. "He was wearing a black mask and black clothing." "How did you find me?" Dad changed the subject. "Well, I saw the commercial and Darin called and said that the thief maybe has you with him," I said. "Well he's wrong. The thief was only with me when he kidnapped me," Dad said. "Weird. Darin called me right away and then he disappeared when I got there and I saw these muddy footprints leading here," I said. "Then that must mean," Dad started to talk. "Darin must have been the thief!" Dad and I both shouted. ____________________
