• I tossed and turned in my massive cloud like bed. I’d never slept so horribly in the big warm comforting blankets then that night. I woke up screaming multiple times. Every time I closed my eyes it was the same strange dream, that seemed so real. I was up on the crust of the earth and not down here in the core.
The city I was in was freezing cold and gray slush covered the ground. I passed people in the alley I walked through all of them staring at me. A big guy with tattered dirty clothes came up to me. He smelled of cheap beer and trash. Dirt and grime covered the part of his face that didn’t have hair. I’d never seen such bushy eyebrows.
“Hey little girl you should come into my box,” he slurred right in my face making me want to throw up. I began to stumble backwards as he leaned more and more into me. I went to turn and run off when another guy came up next to me. Then another came. I could only stumble backwards. I fell on my butt and the three stopped to look down at me. I grabbed a piece of glass that was on the floor and threw it at them. Then I got up and ran.
I had no idea where to go because the alley was a dead end and I had gone towards the wall. There was a sewer between the wall and the ground. I slipped in right when they were gaining on me. One of them not the first bend down to look at me. I backed in more. He popped his head in.
“Bbbb-bbbaa-baaaby,” he stuttered , “comeonoutandplaywithmeandmyfriends.” I knew what he said but just barely, his words had ran together to make one long word. I looked around the dark sewer and shut my eyes tight and began praying, but not to god to some other person or thing. They finally left after about ten minutes. I stayed down for another 20 though to make sure. Then I slowly climbed out and there was no one in the alley.
Mirrors covered every surface including the floor and what had been the sky. I saw me plain-Jane self in all the mirrors. Then my skin felt strange as if it was hardened clay. The clay that was my body, and the only thing keeping me together began to slowly crack. The snaps echoed in my ears ominously. A dark shadow began to squeeze through the breaks that traced around me like a spider’s web. I called some name I didn’t recognize and tears of blood began to poor out of my eyes. The clay around them had pierced the sensitive organs.
The dark shadows began to envelop me and I couldn’t breath. My eyes stayed uncovered enough that I could see myself in the mirror. It was horrible. Pieces of my shell laid around my feet and the shadows began to twirl around me. They were like a tornado of evil swirling faster and faster. Someone began to talk in my ear but I was the only one I could see in the mirrors.
“Just let it go,” whoever whispered menacingly into my ear, “you know you want to.” The voice seemed familiar yet completely new.
“Come on just let me out I can make everything nice and dark,” I shivered as an icy chill ran down my spine, “ Oh come on just stop it Aaliyah.” The voice sounded annoyed and my heart began to push against my chest. ‘What’s happening to me,’ I thought. The voice didn’t say anything but it snickered and I gasped. It could read my thoughts.
“Yes,” it hissed. Then Trinity appeared in the mirror, he was my reflection. His face was stained with tears of blood and the shadows were swirling around him.
“If you just free yourself, you could make him pay,” the voice said, it’s voice not as menacing but coated with a faux sweetness. I shook my head Trinity didn’t matter I had Amarandos. Then my reflection changed to Aro himself.
“Well then let go so that you can make sure he’ll never leave you,” the voice cooed at me. I shook my head and clay dust floated in the shadow twister. Pieces of my blood stained cheeks fell upon the mirrored floor. I was falling to pieces and the shadows grew. Something inside me began to hurt. It was the most horrible pain I had ever felt. My heart as if it was actually being torn to pieces and it felt as if someone was drilling into my head. My ribs were being squeezed tight as more clay broke and fell to the ground. A loud crack and a shot of pain in my side made me whimper and cry out. Along with the tan clay white bones lay broken to bits on the floor.
I screamed and screamed and no one came to rescue me. The images in front of the mirror changed until it had gone through the entire royal family and reverted back to me. Then what ever was trying to kill me flung me to the ground. The mirror shattered and big sharp pieces of it fell all around me. Many grazed my now raw fragile skin. I landed on the roof of a tall building the pieces of glass under me digging into my skin. I thought I had clothes but realized as the wind began to blow me towards the edge of the building that the blood red skin tight clothes, was actual blood.
It had dried in a thick coating. I stood and began to walk against the wind, but it picked up. It flung me off the side of the building and I fell towards grey cement. I hit the floor and my head banged the sidewalk with a loud crack, what should have been my last trace of air came out in a rush, and big bulky men in suits stood around me. I screamed and squirmed as they began prodding at me. Then the men would grow and slowly form into trees.
A thick sweat smelling jungle surrounded me. Marshy grass sank under my feet and vines swung widely around me. Every part of me screamed at the pain it was in and the voice was now just in my head telling me to let go or the torture will go on. Then Amarandos’s voice asked what will happen if the pain goes away. The voice answer simply she will die.
