Patriotism is a word thats used
To express our hearts and feelings
To honor military men and women
and all our nation's dealings.
For those of us who've never gone
To combat in our life,
In countries far away from here
We've never known the strife.
We all should think our right
To show our country pride
And to make sure that we show
Honor, to those that died.
But there's much, much more
To show honor and it's true
To show your real patriotism
It begins in our hearts, 'in you.'
Sometimes when you get angry
And don't see things the way
That others do, we speak out
and others don't think before we say...
How 'bad' our country is for us
"The government is so bad!"
"Another place would be much better
and America...how sad!"
We've got to stop and think
Before those words are said
That freedom's just a breath away
With no safe sleeping in our bed!
You can't impose a law on hearts
And freedom protects the right
Of those who may protest
And those for peace or 'fight.'
No one can point a finger
"Go, be a patriot today!"
You just need to remember
To disagree is okay.
So when we see the protest, We should think about what they
say...
And as long as we're respectful
To honor our good old USA...
We're doing our parts as patriots
To take both sides and listen.
Then freedom and our rights to life
Will never be 'a-missin!'
