Pledge

• Artist: mail-order slut
• Description: I think poetry is over analyzed and way too cliché these days, so I wrote this pledge that I will not continue that trend, if you agree with me say so and put this in your signature. It is time that we stop taking words for granted and start realizing how powerful they can be. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but words are priceless.

Poetry is the written expression
Of whatever the fvck you want it to be
I will not quote the dictionary
Or study longwordology

It is not a profound metaphor
Or like a contrived simile
It does not have to show the reader
What exactly life means to me

I will not write it for a grade
Or just do it to get into college
Nor shall I read it to obtain
Endless amounts of scholastic “knowledge”

In conclusion I propose
That we, the people, learn to see
Past the syntax and the grammar
And look at poetry textbook free
