• We were sitting at the lake where the moon was shining bright,
And hanging high in the sky over our heads.
He was sitting next to me but he wouldn’t say a word,
And I wished we had stayed home in our beds.

I asked him what was wrong but he didn’t answer me,
He just stared up at the stars in the sky.
It was pointless forcing the words out of him,
So I looked up too and began to cry.

When I couldn’t hold it in, I asked him again,
And he looked down from the sky into my eyes.
I was thinking of the past, of all the things he had said,
And I wondered if they had all been lies.

Again he looked away at the water in the lake,
But finally he had something to say.
He didn’t look at me as he said he loved someone else,
And told me straight out to go away.

I stood up hastily, wiping tears from my eyes,
And ran swiftly away from the lake.
I didn’t stop running until all my tears were spent,
And hoped that I would get over my heart-break.
