My teachers always told me to, 'Read Between the Lines'
I'll do that now, if only for them,
When someone says to me
'I love you, unconditionally'
I stop, frozen
Like someone dipped me in a large tub of acid
Just watching me, watching for any signs
That may tell them my flesh has rotted
They will never see it
My outter shell, will never crack
not even when the inside is gone with decay and age,
I read between the lines, and I feel suddenly sick
Like I had the flu, and someone spiked my orange juice
With a deadly poison,
The thing is, poison didn't kill me
Only made me more sick,
made me wish I was dying just to justify the pain,
So when someone asks me to read between the lines
I tell them to
'Please, for my dwindling sanity, shut the hell up.'
And their reply, all the time,
'I love you too.'
