Hot, humid, summer air lounges in the afternoon sky
Bloated grey clouds roll proudly by
The atmosphere seems eerily calm, abnormally at a halt
But Mother Nature is preparing for an unworldly assault
A single raindrop starts the tempest
Millions follow, dancing down to the dirt
The sky is ignited with a low growl
Shaking the earth, the thunder howls
Flashes of lightning stream down the dark sky
Retreating into the heavens in the blink of an eye
Bellowing thunder roars a swift reply
Piercing through the chaotic night
Trees bend and snap, under total command
Of the wind’s brutal hand
Not yielding for any force, any strength
Destroying, reaching massive lengths
As morning approaches, the storm subsides
The elemental mayhem quickly dies
The sun peeks out of its veil of clouds
Scintillating on the earth’s watery shroud
