• People say it's 'emo.'
    They say it's depressing.
    But we, the poets, know.
    It's only expression.

    We may write about food
    or playing with knives.
    Whatever it is,
    it's not necessarily our lives!

    We imagine this stuff
    or take it from reality.
    It could be a bluff
    or our current scenery.

    We write angry
    when we're joyous inside.
    We write optimistically,
    when we're ready to hide.

    In rare times,
    we write our actual feelings.
    They could be within rhymes,
    or just scattered.

    Poets can't be predicted;
    We're fascinating specimens.
You couldn't even find out who we were
if you asked our best friends.

Don't think that we're in love,
if we write about teen angst.
    It's probably a parody
inspired by our so-called school 'saints.'

Because people may call us scary.
But you should know that we're laughing
as you hop on a ferry,
    desperate to leave us behind.

You people can say it's 'emo'
    or that it's depressing.
    But that only means
    you don't understand it.
