I sat down on a park bench one day
moping around because my life didnt agree with me
it was a warm day in late may
I watched an old man slouch against a tree.
He wore raggedy clothes
and with him he held a grocery bag,
He was quite dirty,
maybe in need of a "hose",
His eyes were weary
and his feet would drag.
he looked across the path at me,
and I looked away quick.
I didnt want him to know I could see,
all his problems punding on him like a brick.
I thought of my own worries and woes,
how so little they seemed.
Compared to this man's down right lows.
and then, right then, a smile that man beamed.
He smiled at me,
it hit me fast,
how could this man have so many problems and still be glee?
The memory of his smile will always last.
I then realized how problems can bring us down,
but there is always someone out there who has it worse.
And they don't sit around and frown,
instead they walk around proud,
and give out smiles.
