In the air, his voice stuck down in his throat;
All was now still, and the silence did gloat.
How could anything be right from then on?
How could he deny that his whole life was gone?
Just a lone figure, looming above her grave;
A tear on his cheek for the girl he couldn't save.
And in his hand, a single rose does reside--
Two hearts did break on the day that she died.
Time moved on slowly; the days dragged by.
When he closed out the world, he still heard her cry.
He felt her absence, with his broke beating heart,
Everytime he remembered the day his world fell apart.
Her hands were so soft, and warm in his then.
Until the stranger came out, a gun in his hand.
There had been no time, for goodbye or hello.
And just moments after it all, she just let go.
Words writ in blood, and tears writ in shame;
He knows nothing will be the same.
The shadows they haunt him, all through the night.
He covers his eyes, but can't see her light.
He cries, "How can I survive, now that you're gone?
How ever in this world could I think to move on?"
But silence still lingers; no knock on the door.
She was once here, but he knows that's no more.
Memories so daunting, and love so bittersweet.
He knows one place where they both can meet.
So he goes to his room, where he pictures remain,
And he grabs the bottle before he's once again sane.
The clatter inside, like her laugh calling him near;
This sleep would be final, and then she'd be here.
Back in his arms, and him in hers, too.
They'd be together, like they were meant to.
But she grabbed his wrists, though she wasn't there.
And she brushed her fingers through his tear-damp hair,
And with a smile like sun, on a rainy day,
She spoke to him and shooed all his fears away.
And said, "Things are tough, but that's just for now.
I know you'll make it through the dark somehow.
Just hold on--yes just wait and see;
In time you will find you can make it without me."
And time has passed; years have gone by.
And in his dreams, he can still hear her cry;
But it's not in pain, and it's not in sorrow.
It's in great joy, because he has a tomorrow.
And every night now, he gets to see her smile,
Even just in his dreams, and only for a while.
His heart still beats, and it breaks no more;
She is an echo in his corridor.

Description:
I just got the inspiration to write, especially since I've had 'Kiss it All better' by He is We in my head. Such a sweet song, and I hope this poem makes you think of it and does it justice in his inspiration. :)
Also, I played the rhythm of the verses in my mind while writing, so if you listen to the song and read the words to the tune, it just sounds better. - Date: 03/07/2011
