• Seconds last longer when all you do is wait

Wait for misfortunes to come to an end

End the horrors felt in this small town’s still beating heart

Heart damaged by sadness and disgust

Disgust from the sights of bodies with no more life

Life that was ripped from the inside

Inside out their corpses were left

Left as roadkill, but in their own homes they laid

Laid where one is supposed to feel comfort

Comfort has become a myth because there is no more rest

Rest in peace to those who left the world too soon

Soon the grief of our souls will be restored

Restored to what they were before

Before the trust we had in humanity broke

Broke from the heartlessness of a few

Few are they whose betrayal was needed

Needed to strip all 5,000 of us from our sense of security

Security I lack, as I hesitate to close my eyes at night

Night is when there is no mercy as the morning is when victims appear

Appear out from the dark shadows of pain

Pain is now finished, they’ve lost the fight

Fight is all I do with the thoughts that I could be next

Next in line to be another number in the body count

Count my blessings, try to see the light

Light is hard to see when all the stars are far away

Away from all others because I live alone

Alone is what I thought I was but creaking floors beg to differ

Differ from the ideal situation as I’m confronted with reality

Reality that life isn’t consistently in our favor

Favor of falling asleep every night and waking up every morning
