A gasp.
A body lurching forward in bed.
Crystalline blue eyes wide as they stared around.

The man felt along the bed he lay in, his head flinching back and forth quickly, mouth parted as he gasped for air. A hospital? The man ran a hand through his hair, finding his hand forced to stop by the wires and needles protruding from his head. Breathing hard he grabbed them, letting out a scream of pain as he forced them out, eyes closed tightly. When out he threw them to the ground, the blood splattering against the white as the needle clanked hard. He held his head, looking then to the wires in his arms, pulling them out fast and throwing them just as hard. Those didn’t seem to hurt as bad, but he was still trying to figure what was going on. When he stood his knees were weak, gripping the bed to try and keep standing, eyes closed tightly as he struggled to keep himself up with his arms that seemed more like noodles.

He then forced himself up to his shaky feet, stepping around the bed to where the chart for him was supposed to be, grabbing the clipboard and reading quickly.

Inelios Gnemlan
28
Carrier

That was all…

With the sight of his name the memories began washing back. His eyes went to the band around his ring finger, seeing the face of the dark haired woman that was his wife, shaking his head as he groaned some. Inelios then tossed the board onto the bed, stepping away from it and to the double doors, bare feet smacking faintly on the tile ground. The doors opened with a gentle push, the man stepping into the hall, looking left then right then left again, starting down the hall.

“Hello?” he called, his voice echoing back to him as everything kept silent. Turning he stepped away from the room, his arms folded over his chest, swallowing hard. “Is anyone here?” He froze then, staring at a man at the end of the hall, a gun in his hand as he stared at him. “Y-you… you’re a carrier… y-you need to get back to your room!” The man was covered in blood, stepping closer, Inelios holding up his hands as he stepped back. “There’s nothing wrong with me..” he murmured softly, “I’m fine.. I’m going back to my room..” The man stepped closer but stopped, eyes wide as he fell to his knees, a woman behind him with a large metal box in her hands, having slammed it against the other’s head. She stared at him, her eyes narrowing. “What the ******** are you waiting for?! Run before more come!” she snapped.

He stumbled back some, his eyes wide before he turned and ran from the sight. Hands slammed over the doors of the hospital, looking around before running down the sidewalk. Why did everything seem so empty? Where were all the cars? All the people? It was a question he kept asking himself as he ran down the streets. Following his memory he took a few turns, running without a break until he was before the large home where he and his wife lived. Opening the door he stumbled in, “Diana?” he called, greeted by the dark haired woman as she ran around the corner and into his arms, hugging him tightly. “What’s going on?” he questioned, the female sighing some as she shook her head. “It’s a virus…” she murmured, “it’s killing people and bringing them back… but… when they come back.. They try to eat other people.. I.. I can’t forget what I’ve seen.. It was so-” She was cut off by the man holding her tightly against himself, rubbing her back softly, “shhh.. It’s all over now.. I’m here to protect you Diana.”

She smiled and looked up to him, leaning up to press her lips against his own. He closed his eyes, fingers curling in her hair, holding her close as the kiss deepened. But it was brought to a sudden stop, the female coughing heavily, pushing him back. She held her chest, eyes closed tightly, “w-what’s going on?” she questioned. But she fell to her knees, her eyes wide, looking up to him as he started closer to her. “No! Stay back!” she snapped, “I.. I’ve been infected!” She coughed again as blood splattered from her mouth, throwing it up as her body shook. “D-diana?” he questioned, his eyes widening as she fell to the ground lifeless. “Diana?!” He ran to her side, shaking her body, trying to get her up, but nothing happened. Soon, though, her fingers twitched, a growl sounding from her as the man grew hopeful, “Diana! You’re okay!”

But she wasn’t…

She had tackled him down, hands at his throat, crying out as she tried to bite him. He kept her back with his arms, eyes wide as she tried to rip out his throat with her teeth, crying out her name. His head turned, looking for something, anything, finding a bat simply laying on the ground. Grabbing it he slammed it to her head, she falling off before he staggered to his feet. She tried to get up after him, but, with a scream, he slammed the bat into her head over and over, his eyes closed tightly.

Then… silence…

He stood with the bat in his hand, staring at the mangled corpse, feeling the need to throw up. He realized then what the paper meant.. He was a carrier… he had the virus in his blood, in his saliva.

---------------------------------------------------------

Weeks later the virus had spread, killing off the people, bringing them back, only a few other people actually left alive. Those that were found as carriers were killed, all but Inelios… The man himself had vowed to save as many as he could, he couldn’t save his wife, his family, or even himself from the virus, so he would do what he could to help the rest of humanity.

The sound of gunfire caught his attention, pulling the hood over his head as he began his run through the streets, following the sound of shouting. It was a group of people, a few already grabbed by the infected, those that hadn’t firing weapons. Soon all but one was grabbed, the other still firing shots, Inelios running into the fight. A sword was drawn, slashing through the bodies, a knife in his other hand as he sliced through the flesh easily. Soon all the bodies were on the ground, he sheathing the two blades, looking to the other with shadowed eyes, “gunfire only attracts them…” he murmured softly, “they use sound to hunt…” He then began to walk from the figure, dusting himself off, figuring his job was finished.
