Sometimes adults leave me completely winded with their opinion of today's youth. Most of them disregard anything possibly good about any of us and automatically assume that we are bad kids without even getting to know who we really are. That's a generalization that's made far to often where I live. Many adults around here look at the bad side of our generation: the junkies, crack-heads, losers, and other people that fall into that category, and immediately assume that all people that age are like that. It's really annoying. I can't go up to half the people in my church without them treating me like I'm just an ignorant child who doesn't know or care about what's going on in the world around me. They think that I'm disrespectful and have no manner of sense at all, that they were never like me when they were my age. I mean, our generation is not just a bunch of unruly kids seeking to bring the world to it's end with our "outragous music", "ridiculous hairstyles", and "inappropriate" way of dressing. Like, what do they know about us? Nothing. They have no idea what exactly is going through our heads and how most of us perceive what we call a lifestyle. They judge us upon seeing us for the first time, never desiring to know who we are as a person. They look over us though looking skimming over a piece of art in a gallery, just glancing and never getting familiar with the meaning behind the painting's characteristics. They were kids once, too, I realize, but times have changed. You don't have to "hike 3 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways" anymore. Almost nothing in our culture is exactly the same as it was for them. They wouldn't know what kinds of situations we're put in. I'm tired of adults giving me assinine and bullheaded comments and opinions when they don't even know who I am. They take one look at me and think that I'm unruly, uncaring, and uncivilized. I don't care what they think. They just don't realize how truly important we are to their future. They should think about the fact that when they get old and crusty that we'll be taking care of them. Maybe then they'll think before giving us their uneducated opinion.
