As I fall into the lightest of sleep,
I hope that nightmares will not haunt my nights
And the ghouls remain in the haunted deep,
Yet fear will still reach its greatest of heights
As my haunting imaginings of fires,
Streets dripping with bodies coated in blood,
The night was filled with the screeching of tires,
Tears flowing over pillows in a flood.
Yet still I wait, afraid to leave in hurry,
When the night resumes its ever pregnant hush
With the fear of that which is constant fury.
So I jolt awake in increasing rush,
Now aware that night however is late,
Though this dream resumes with dwindling fate.

- Description: I originally wrote this for English during my freshman year of high school. It is a sonnet, so the specifications for length and syllables were kind of limiting. Tell me what you think.
