On New Year's Day,
I've come to stay
Beside your side.
Let nothing hide
My smiling face,
Nothing erase
These memories
Of things we see,
Things we believe,
Things we achieve,
Though they were brief
And filled with grief.
And as I sit,
Freezing a bit,
Beside your grave,
Little less brave
I seem to be;
As tears pry free,
My vision blurs,
Nothing has cured
My old habits.
I'm cold a bit,
But I will stay
Till the end of day.
