It's been a year since I last came here
And yet I still hold you dear
It's always been this still and quiet
Everything seems old and tired
The sky's in shades of grey and white
And birds are hovering in the air so light
The trees lean with the sweeping wind
The long hills lie surrounding
Walking in grass tousled with trampled petals
Watching fallen leaves drifting to settle
Stopping in front of this grave that holds
A person that once lived so bold
The reason why this place is still
Why its solemnity has its will
Like an unseen veil that separates the past and now
Although it may not exactly be how
Laying flowers you loved on this grave
This sacred moment I had to save
The most defining memory of you
Fleets its slow way through
I look around and it dawns on me
That these million graves tell their own story
Pity for those who had to leave so soon;
Those who left in pools of maroon
Time matters not in this place
No, not even a hint or trace
And even as I walk away
I'll still believe I'll see you one day
