Who are you? Who am I?
Who is that child standing by?
May I ask you for your name?
By your look we are the same.
Are you perhaps another friend?
Perhaps one with a heart to lend?
I hope you are, because then you
Are not me, but someone new
You still are warm, you are alive.
Me? I’m dead, with no heart to drive
I’m a heartless child and eyes so cold
I’m sorry but my heart was sold
I bet you can’t guess where it is now,
Bet you will be wrong in guess, I vow
Because it is a place you will never see
A place that you’d never guess it would be
Somewhere it will be safe and crushed,
Mutilated, dead, its scream hushed
If it had a voice it would probably scream
Though no one would hear it through the scheme
And yet it would also laugh and laugh
Even though it is most certainly not on my behalf
It would smile through the tears of pain
Tied up and wrapped many icy chains
My friend who is not me, yet is me,
Please hold on to this precious key.
It may not be much, but that is all I can give
Perhaps you might be able to find a way to forgive
This sorry fool, a lover and crier to the end
This heartless child has reached the final bend
Good bye my friends, hope you will be well,
Now I’ll be on my way down the road to hell…
